Sweet. I prefer lighter machines myself, but the Devastator's a nasty piece of work. :)

[insert "You must not be a Steiner" joke here]

I never cared for the huge shoulder, itty-bitty head look myself.

And both XL engines and Double Heat Sinks!

Ooooh, very nice. The Devastator is definitely one of those 'Bringing on the pain!' designs.

I've got the encyclopedia entry at my fingertips for those interested.

General Kerensky himself designed the specifications for the Devastator to make up for perceived flaws in the prototype Titan. However, when Stefan Amaris seized the reigns of the Terran Hegemony, production of the Devastator was stalled until the invasion of Terra, when a mere six prototypes were delivered to the Star League Defense Force. After its deployment in the battle for Terra, the Devastator remained lost to the Inner Sphere for centuries, until troops from the Federated Suns chanced upon the blueprints in a Star League base on the world of Hoff in 3023. A downgraded version of the 'Mech was prototyped in 3033 by the NAIS, using technology available at the time. It was not until 3044 that a Devastator appeared that was constructed using the intended technologies (DVS-2); this version was finally put in production by 3048.
The Devastator is powered by a Vlar 300 XL Engine giving it a top speed of 54 km/h. The 'Mech is protected by eighteen and a half tons of Durallex Heavy armor and has fourteen double heat sinks to dissipate waste heat.

The Devastator carries an arsenal focused on long-range combat. The primary weapons are a pair of Poland Main Model A Gauss Rifles backed up by two Donal PPCs. For close combat, the Devastator carries four Intek Medium Lasers, one of which is mounted in the rear of the center torso to keep enemy infantry from getting too ambitious.

Second time they've mentioned the Devastator.

One of the few IS assaults that make good use of that XL engine. Another being it's brother the Thunder Hawk.
The Devastator does have less heat problems and better endurance though, even after the Gauss rifles are dry.

Typical Lyran mentality create an army of Assault Mech Scout lances :)

Hoping to see this Mech in game. With all the references so far I'm hopeful.
I wonder if the model version they are testing is the Star League Downgrade DVS-1D with the 2 AC/10's and LG Lasers.

It says right in the report the DVS-2, which is the Guass version.

Not to mention this 'Mech has NEVER been in a MechWarrior game. Keep 'em coming.

Hoff is (and apparently always has been) a FedSuns world.

The modern Devastator, therefore, would be for all intents and purposes a FedSuns/Davion 'Mech. :)

Well, the OP does explicitly say they were testing the DVS-2.
But, I do hear that the FedSuns/Davions do love their autocannons almost as much as the Lyrans/Steiners love their assault 'Mechs... :P

3rd Royal Guards is a Lyran Unit tho.
