I misread your name as "Depressed MathBlaster". Your actual name is a disappointment.

(For those that have no idea wth I'm talking about)

What exactly do you mean by "happy I can bypass Steam"?

Because when I saw the thread title I immediatly thought "Oh, someone using the stand alone installer. Man, that thing is far too clunky and obsolete for new installs, what with subsequently downloading and installing all of those old patches and such, I'll recommend this player to install through Steam, that will even make his future updates run smoother. "

Just for further information. I've used the stand alone installer when I started player 3+ years ago and though it was 'ok' in how it kept patching (though slooooooow, could often go do something else for an hour just for a 1 Gig patch), but that was because I kept on patching from what was then the base install. They've hardly ever updated that base install to incorporate all those patches from the past 3 years. And every 4 patches or so the validation would freak out and upon veryfying found some files that its own patching process had forgotten to delete. Posted Image

I would only recommend the stand-alone installer in 2 cases. 1) You've already had it and the update process goes smoothly. 2) You have a crappy internet connection and want to be able to use the pre-download option that PGI has been offering for the....past half year or so?

In all other cases I'd just go through Steam, much smoother and faster ride.

Whenever I put MWO on ice, to have a break, I wipe it completely from my drives
With the recent patch I installed it fresh again

Sure don't know what you're talking about taking long

But then my connection isn't slow, and I'm only having SSD's
The game's size isn't anything on the small side, but it's also nothing out of the ordinary

But have you tried actually big games through steam?
DOOM was what, 50GB?

Or Star Citizen? ;-)

Just download and install the game through steam. MWO has the worst patch client in the history of gaming (I have played this game on 3 different pc builds and all three, once it starts patching makes my computer, stumble stutter, and crawl), MWO through steam...takes care of all of it, by not using the stupid patch client. Out of over a dozen games, I have no problems just this one and that god awful client.

Took me a day to download Just Cause 3. Gotta love mountain, End-Of-The-Line internet service!

MWO isn't that big though. It's not that big of a deal.

EDIT: I also remember, in 2004, having to download a day one update for Half-Life 2. On Dial-Up. It took me three days.

I don't think Star Citizen even counts as a game.... and I've not played it, but the patch client can't be much worse than this lol

I switched to steam to not have to deal with slow downloads via PGI.

The worst part about that Half Life 2 day one patch, was that it was for Multi-player only.... but you had to down load it to be able to launch the single player game...

Oh my god.. I think I have found the reason this game is dying and not getting new players..

It takes a lifetime to install !!

I just had to install onto a new Win10 installation and I am up to about the 3rd hour of the install and patch. And I don't have a slow connection.. most games download and install in minutes..

Most people would not bother if a game install took this long..

Use Steam and let it auto update. Also disable anti virus while it installs. Once it installs on steam right click the name go to properties local files and verify. Steam will double check all files and download and missing files. If you did a clean install of win you might need direct x version 9.0c or 11. The minimal mwo says direct x ver 9.0c. I have both versions installed on my machine since I also emulate older systems.
