Wiki'd
Films and television Films Battletech
franchise1]launched by FASA Corporation in 1984, acquired by WizKids in 2000, and owned since 2003 by Topps

Star wars was first, Battletech was more centered around it (Like comparing an Ice Cream Shop to a restaurant that serves Ice Cream)

But both have their place in my heart (along with everything else Sci-Fi like Star Trek)

I am gonna go out on a limb and say neither was the first...

"The 1880 Jules Verne novel La Maison à vapeur (The Steam House) featured a steam-powered, piloted, mechanical elephant."

Wow! Walker and Battlemechs are so different in so many ways, they should never be compared to one another. Might as well add Gundams to the thread.

Nah, a skinny kid with a laser sword can take down an Imperial Walker...

Considering that BattleTech started life as BattleDroids, I would have to say Star Wars, hands down.
And there's the simple matter of timing:
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back came in 1980
Dougram in 1981, Macross in 1982 (both sources of the Unseen Mechs)
BattleTech didn't show up until 1984

That being said, BattleMechs would tear an AT-AT into bite-sized chunks. An AT-AT may have heavy armour, but it's mobility and fire arcs are exceedingly limited.

and you missed the meaning of the question all together... 1. They are both fusion powered. 2nd they share simular designs. 3rd they both use energy weaponry. and so on and so on.... Mechs dont transform like Gundams.. and besides my original question was to see who knew which came 1st... which was obviousely Star Wars.. and as for who would win... who knows.. unless some geniuse makes a program that would take a starwars walker and a battlemech and duke it out... till them it's anyone's guess

One Large Laser to the head, and an Arrow IV to the knee.

Sheilds give a giant advantage, along with Super Star Destroyers, having a main beam 1/3 the power of the Death Star. As per ground wars, the walks can be slow, but the AT-AT still has sheilds. AlsoA single shield instilation could help against a orbital bombbardment, needless to say missiles and lasers xD. Mainly you are going for a universe that has a HUGE tech advantage against one that still is lacking compared to them. I love both sides but honestly, I know allot when it comes to SW, not to mention the force users >.>

Edit: Also another thing, you are only thinking their walkers, you also have to take into account military land speeders (not the singles but the tank like hover speeders that had some serious firepower)

Edit 2: Okay so reading back up no the AT-AT didn't have shields but still was ehavily armed

ahh they may be crap compared to a Mech... but then the Empire has tech that Mechs dont.... ion blasters which acts like a EMP when hit... thus would kill the mechs fusion engine for a short span. thus making it a giant paper weight

Looks like dictionaries need to be handed out with forum memberships.
