References I find on Piloting Skills sound ominously singular.

"When it comes to the pilot, you’ll be able to train your pilot to fit the role that you like."

"So we have a pilot tree, a skill tree. As you level up you can unlock new features and new abilities. So if you want to be a scout, you would get skills related to information technology, or being able to move faster, hide, things like that. If you wanted to be more of an assault person, it would be more related to weapon control and such."

I hope we will eventually be able to accumulate in game credentials to max out in each of the four named branches, Command, Attack, Defence & Recon, rather than have to pick a single up-front & run w it.

i'm hoping skills dont affect what you can and cant do in a mech to the point where your required a specific tree design to be able to get on a team.

something else i just thot of (may be mentioned elswear, im just starting to comb thru these), we will all have our account, but what about having multiple "characters" (ie WOW). Just a curiosity, not a desire or suggestion. I sincearly hope we wont be limited to a single branch/tree and dont forsee it.Would be far to restrictive imo and probably drive people away, but if we WERE restricted or limited then multiple toons could offset that. It could allow teams to kit out as required, ie: if bob who is usually the scout cant make it cuz of his wifes work party, fred could hop onto his scout he's been working on to fill out the team. I'm sure we have all considered the wow corellations (Tank,Healer,DPS etc). I just signed on a day or two ago and am stoked to play this. Im a hardcore BTech player for over twenty years but have a minor realization that it wont completely be tabletop straight to comp. Another thot (im in random mode now) what about unit specalizations? Zeta Battalion had offensive bonus', The nightStalkers specilized in urban, etc. Any mention or thots on what could be done in that direction? Possibly linked to individual skillsets commonality, or an obtainable ability thru corps expierience and purchasable in the cashshop with c-bills and LP's. My head hurts after having just reading thru the thread on mechs being permanently destroyed or not and whatever system comes out, perhaps a unit specialization for salvaging (somewhat minimizing the loss of your pers mech) or faster repairs (if time based repair delay), etc. Just a couple random thots i had this evening...

I don't think that will happen but I do hope that pilot skill affects your performance enough that it matters. If we are able to have multiple pilot avatars with different skills I don't mind having a limited amount of points.

I like the idea of specializing as it means the more experience you get in the game the more you are likely to have a defined role.
