Sadly, this doesn't surprise me. If you are watching the mini map, you can occasionally see friendlies and and enemies zooming across as they are brought in by dropship.
A lucky shot and a little hit registration problem, and boom, you're hit before you even drop.
I've suspected this issue a few times while I've been waiting for a drop myself, but didn't have a screenshot to confirm it, so thanks. There are a few moments where a dropship will hover over an LZ, and somebody could be taking potshots for an early bird hit.
Yet another reason why the drop/reinforcement method needs to be looked at.
