The new roadmap completely pumps me up. It's like this is what the first version of the game should be. And in some way, it really is [a finally fnished product]...

So why not use this momentum to push for a relaunch. Make it a big event around the gaming communities. MWO 2.0 per se. Imagine how many people left prior because of the state of the game before. Let's welcome them back with a complete polish game.

Out in the market now, there are no major slower pace strategic shooters. If you guys have played any FPS games, you know that one of the most popular mode is "crouch battle." So clearly, people want to shift away from the bunny hop or mech suit fast action pace highlighted by recent CoD release. (That's partly why I think Battlefield One was so well reviewed. It takes the genre back to something a bit slower, grittier, and more natural.)

Mech combat perfectly fits that need. And just search Steam for mech shooters, they all blow! So with all these new features that's going to excite the mech world until the release of MW 5, why not get a new start? Let's relaunch this title and make some noise!

That would be its... what, 3rd launch? Maybe 4th, if you count the CBT to OBT as a separate launch? Still, if they just straight up turn FW into the FedCom Civil War, I'd be absolutely fine with it.

PGI already blew their "relaunch" in the form of the Steam launch. The numbers don't really lie. This and MM complaints are pretty much hinting at this.

Put in a new engine, upgrade the map esthetics properly with proper textures, ambient sound and all the fluff, make more and new maps, add dynamic map elements and MAYBE then people would be suprised. Right now the game is as it has been for 4 years. Not feeling the new vibes you feel, sorry...

a relaunch with declining population numbers? (I'm assuming as many people I know, including myself, no longer play).

a launch or relaunch is marketing, PGI doesn't know how to do it. There has been no marketing since IGP sold off.

oh, and if they did a relaunch, it would most likely result in the same as the big "launch" when they laid out their plans for CW and then failed in nearly every conceivable way to deliver on that plan.

For all the problems IGP was, at least when they were in charge things got done. We may not have always liked their direction, but they made PGI deliver on time. That almost sounds like I'm defending IGP..... isn't that scary?

Sure they can relaunch.

It's called "We're making a single-player Mechwarrior game", which happens to be a relaunch of the original concept.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU'RE FUNNY. It was the exit of IGP that got people going "Maybe PGI can turn it around".

And here you are, not playing.

@RWolf: IGP sucked and they are no longer are an extant company. They clearly did NOT know what they were doing. When the hell did you actually play? The worst year ever was under their helm.

Like the Steam launch or the official launch before it, what PGI did effectively was minimally viable.

It's not as if PGI couldn't do one... it's doing it well is another matter altogether.

Also, it would cost money to advertise this anyways (particularly on Steam) and that would be a really tough downside to swallow.

If PGI ever decided to NOT put in an effort that's equivalent to a beta, people would feel differently. It's not really on us to want this, it's on PGI to care.

Wow! I am quite surprised by people being ecstatic over something that, when stripped to it's bare essence, is nothing but a smoke and mirrors show.

Compare gameplay footage from 3 years ago to now, how is the game not like 100% different? (Ok, the core gameplay is not, but the UI has)

Barring some miracle that transform the game into a hybrid MMO with PvE raid elements, I don't see what else you can add besides more modes and maps... which they are doing.

Potential game changing elements releasing over the summer with new techs and further fixing of physics from IK? Damn right I'm ecstatic. These are HUGE changes.

If the skill tree change is good and not a massive charlie foxtrot I may get a bit excited, but PGI's track record is not very impressive so I will definitely still not be pre-ordering anything.

Other than more mechs and swag, what proportion of the announcement was new as opposed to what was heard before and/or are being delayed -- again?

Instead of being pessimistic about it get back into the game and spend some money on the good things! That is how a game improves. I'm not saying dont be critical its just that if you like this game and there is not a lot else out there like it.... it might be wise to support the company.

Well there might be little to no downside - but I fail to see any upside in putting any time or resources into a "re-launch". It isn't really a 'thing'. It's just a marketing and advertising push. Which they can do whenever they feel like it.

I could have sworn Russ said MWO will never be complete, so who knows? I sure don't.
