Sorry Alex.

I know it's a tough fight between making a mech somewhat survivable, and yet true to the art, but this came out looking like Kate Moss's beast bossomed grandmother.

Posted Image

Scrawny limbs are true to the art... but made even more scrawny. Ditto the legs. Most of my issue is the torso...which is also noted for it's forward?high balance point, to the degree that it actually made the Javelin somewhat difficult to pilot, and prone to imbalance. (Something I doubt it's specs will replicate)

Instead it has these odd rib boobs dangling below the launchers. It would almost work. it they could slide up and cover the launch tubes, ......

But sorry... especially after bringing me my Assassin, and the visual poetry of the Roughneck.... but this one... just fails.

Well, fortunately for you the Hasheeshin comes up in a couple of months and mostly does everything the Javelin would do anyways, if with significantly less AMS. Because seriously, how much missile spamming can you do with Sphere launchers on a 30-tonner?

Quite a lot, actually, if the Oxide(which is five tons heavier) has anything to say about it.

I think it looks okay. I mean, he did what he could with it.

Most of those old humanoid style mechs look awful to begin with.

Never gonna be a pretty mech. The most important bits, those mutton chops, survived at least! 6x SRM2 should be absolutely frustrating to deal with, too....

I couldn't disagree more myself.

The legs are skinny and true to form of the old TRO art.

The head with it's cockpit glass and 'conquistador helmet esque' shape are intact.

The missile tubes are in line with other MWO mechs previously made (like the Cyclops which is made by the same manufacturer)

As far as the pot belly, the text says something about it and the original art shows it a bit but all subsequent art and models I've seen do not show it as being a prominent as it implies.

It does have the shoulder articulation point set to the rear, just as this picture shows.

I just don't know about this one. I wanted a new light so bad.

So I had a list of units I had in mind. The list read something like: Piranha, Incubus, Locust IIc, Wasp, Valkyrie, SPECTOR, Stinger, Firemoth, Hellion, Hermes, but not so much a non ECM, super tall missile chassis. And the look of the unit...

Normal I love the look of the mechs but this one not so much. I think I may be putting way to much effort and thought into the game. It seems I am much more disappointed than the thrilled I expected to be with todays announcement.

edit: clean up

It can jump. It can pack most of the laser firepower of a Firestarter 5 tons lighter, and smaller as a result. It can pack more SRM launchers in it than an Oxide. It can move up to 160ish KPH. What's not to like?

Not impressed. Out of all the picks they chose a nostalgia bait missile boat that's rather underwhelming.

And, as a special bonus, the ECM variant is the only one without jump jets...

£$%^ you PGI!

Also, all but the hero come with STD engines, single HS ,and standard structure so you'll have a whole load of money to spend to make them at all viable.

Oh and probably SRM quirks if any, so not even good as an LRM boat, especially as they're going to be pretty much the tallest light mech ever with those skinny limbs

It's the only configuration of hardpoints not covered by something that isn't a hero.

If this is a nostalgia boat, the wasp/stinger combo some folks wanted must be a friggin nostalgia aircraft carrier.

It's not bad. I just wish it was goofier looking. The shrinking of its mutton chops and the 'modernizing' of it's dome top sadden me, though.

This is what the Javelin is supposed to look like.

Yeah, but the Oxide - at least when I ran it - had to play a very careful game in the 'MechLab to carry enough rounds to be relevant whilst also carrying enough launchers/tubes to also be relevant.

The Javelin's going to have to play the same game with five less tons to do it with, and will also be expected to find room for jump jets.

You're going to have to compromise somewhere, be it speed, ammo, tube count, or jump capability. It's hard enough to get all of those on a Jenner IIC, and the JIIC has those five extra tons and lightweight Clan gear going for it to boot.

The laser variant(s) may well see some play, especially with incoming FutureTech giving ER options for pokers...but like I said to Requiem, you just don't have the room for everything people are going to want on this 'Mech. It may be small enough to be a mostly-adequate pest and the preponderance of torso hardpoints helps it some if it shaves its arms to nothing, but even then, man...

Even then. The Hasheeshin may be a lot bigger, but it'll be able to hit similar-ish (reasonable) speeds with similar SRM payloads and actually have room for things like ammo and jump jets. If I had to pick between the two, I'd land on the Hasheeshin pretty much every time.

I have a scorching pathological hatred for calling most 'Mechs by their proper names. If I can figure out a cutesy/aggravating nickname for them I will. This also goes for just about literally everything else I can possibly get away with. I am That Guy. Beware my mania for screwing with names.

Oxide is 1) 35 tons and 2) Only effective because of Dartboard of Destiny UberQuirking.
