Greater than 4.2Ghz on Intel i5/i7's. AMD no idea, but I suspect 4.5Ghz

With Intel gear you need to break that 4.0 Ghz mark. Until Zen comes out I don't recommend running any AMD CPU for MWO

4.5GhZ is the magic number on an Intel Haswell chip. More than 5GhZ is the magic number on a Piledriver AMD chip. This is already tested and proven. Everybody else is guessing.

sadly 8350 @ 5.0 with tight *** oc ram timings and H20 cooling cant keep up with intels offerings, I sadly get smoother gameplay on I5 3550 @ 4172mhz than i did with previous AMD system. 900mhz lower but no dips into the 30s anymore, it stays above 45 all the time. no matter what.

4.2GHZ Overclocked I7 Quad Core is probably the best processor on the market. For MW:O or the average consumer? You'll do fine with an I5 or even something as "slow" as a 3.2-3.5 GHZ CPU. Just make sure that it's quad core.

Yeah, but 5GhZ was enough to hold a 60fps average, wasn't it? I'm aware that we saw some nasty dips still, but it wasn't nearly as bad as people that would only take their FX chips into the 4.4-4.8GhZ territory, right? If not, I guess I'll just revise 5GhZ to like 5.2GhZ or simply say "Ryzen or nothing" from now on.

Yeah, basically the Kaby Lake 7700K with its 4.5GhZ turbo clock is right about ideal for MWO running at 1080p. If somebody -demands- 60fps at very high, I'd just start with a 7700K and Z270 board right off the bat.

Im running easy 60-100+ fps on a stock 3.5Ghz i7 and a Nvidia 970 @ 1080 with most graphics options lowered

I prefer frame rate over pretties

I do not. I demand both. I'm not playing on a console.

;-)

I'll be carefully who I invite back home ignoring the valuables and going for my USB ports

If I had a better GPU like a Nvidia 1080 I could, the CPU is fast enough.
Point being don't get an AMD when a stock Intel i7 trumps it. Posted Image

Yeah, but the vast majority of people do not delid their CPUs (with new utilities being sold, though, I imagine it will be a little more common from now on). Still, 5.2GhZ on air is damn impressive. It really makes me want one, though I'm trying to hold out for Skylake-X. My VMs love to suck up memory bandwidth.

Found an oldie but a goodie, FX8350 -5017mhz 250X20@1.52V with 2020mhz gksill sniper 2133 CL12 @ 10-10-10-28 2T 1.65V on Corsair H80/
This was pretty much as fast as I ever could push that chip on my Asus M5A97EVO that needed custom VRM cooling to push into the 5.0ghz range......

A shame about it, 3+ years of constant tweaking to get sub par performance........I5 3550 @ 4172 games on another level by comparison.
