I'm a relatively new Clan player who has been trying different things, figuring out a build/play style that works for me.

I have some questions about Targeting Computers. First off, are they worth it at all? The zoom improvement, the velocity bonus to ballistics, the other things, do they offset the cost in tonnage/slots? Am I better off with more ammo and heat sinks?

If they are worth it, is there a straight "more is more better" exchange, or is there a particular tonnage of Targeting Computer I should build toward? Is a little Mk 1 even worth the effort? Is a huge Mk 7 too much tons and slots for not enough effect? Where's the happy medium, if there is such a thing?

Finally, each targeting computer comes with a sequence of three numbers at the end of its description, some sort of "crit bonus." I can't make sense of this. Does anyone know what these numbers mean for the user?

Any build advice or relation of experience regarding Clan Targeting Computers is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This guide features a lot of MK1 TC, mostly because it's only 1 ton. it's nice if you have an extra ton left over.

TC1 is the one that's usually worth it, only time to use bigger ones is if you really have no other options or if you're using a couple PPCs and want the extra velocity and already have enough cooling.

Also make note that they do nothing for machine guns, SRMs, LRMs, or LBX.

Most of the time I prefer bringing a TC1 on a build that uses a lot of lasers for the extra crit boost and little bit of range it gives, usually its worth more than what a single heatsink would do for me.

They are worth it but not at the expense of changing the build, only when you have leftover tonnage. So get your engine size, weapons, ammo, and heatsinks in order first, then look at what you have to spare and see if one will fit.

A TC1 is usually worth a DHS, IMO. The math on the last heat sink is usually actually pretty unimpressive.

JMan5 showed some solid math about how not impactful marginal heat sinks usually are. Really changed how I look at fine tuning builds.

Hey Terciel could you link that if it's handy? I'd like to peek at it!
