In MWO knowing how to tank damage by intentionally exposing expendable parts of your mech to cover vulnerable ones is probably biggest dividing line between ace pilots and average players. One the best know moves is Twisting torso - its allow spread damage around upper chassis, but mostly ST are taking most of damage. Other way is simple jumping - allow leg for soaking some domage. Next one is mobility - dodge some enemy fire, with masc could be done much easier. The last 2 thought are demanding mechs with equipment. I propose new ability, the guard, to spread domage mostly to arms when you are in front of enemy. In that mode upper chassis is taking defense position, moving his arms in front of mech trying hide CT. It could looks like some boxers in defensive pose. The drawbacks are:
 • Cannot fire in guard mode;
 • Narrow view - bacause arms are in the way.
Mostly humanoid mechs will have the most benefit. Some other mech will be able to only hide his ST. The other ones wont do this at all. Bah, you could even laught at Atlas when he is in guard mode - looking like some pugillist, but you will be suprised that when this armless mech is close enought to unleash his power.
The guard mod would work great with twisting torso around to make your yellow/red CT as clean as possible. Losing arms is low price, especially for some mech with no harpoints at all!
PTS is up now, and it would be a good time to check this ability at least in one variant, even which crappy animation between modes. The best candidate would be Atlas and test him out with Kodiak to see any differences.
Time to change mode is should bed differences for every mechs by tons, so the light, nimble mechs (20t) can guard up at very quickly (0.4s) up to heavies mech (100t) for 2s time for complete sequence.

The guard mode can use only the mechs with at lest lover arm actuator for now. This pose could be beggining for start melee in MWO and MW5. In that game I see puching and tackle with ST as only melee moves in ground combat without special weapons. Why these two and how it could works is a tale for other time.

For now I really love to see guard up in a game, and i thinks is as good as twisting torso to test it out.

How that song for you?

P.S. Sorry for any grammar and spelling mistakes. It seems I don't have enough practice with it.
