I miss Tom and Jerry, and a few other cartoons from that day and age, when cartoons still held some innocence. Sure there was violence (slap stick often), which is what the critics hated about them. So now we have family guy. Well, that was not a change for the better. Tom never tossed a grenade into the kitchen, gunned down a bunch of trick or treaters, or popped open his shirt going down the road as a means of comedy. I just don't see how trying to get rid of those cartoons and replacing them with nightly doses of family rampage did our youth any good.

I never miss those.

I do miss the old NHK anime, with openings and themes that will stick to your mind forever.

Man, this one is made by Hayao MIyazaki and Isao Takahata.

I miss the rise of the shows that sold toys like GI Joe. I forgot most of the other ones but there where a bunch of vehicle related toys of various kinds

And I totally dug that old 80s anime like Macross, Space Battle Ship Yamoto and even what was called Battle of the Planets in the US. The Science Ninja Team of something like that in Japanese.

The 90s with Rug Rats, Wild Thornberries, Dexter's Laboratory... watched all of those with my own kids. Then Cartoon things went downhill when Sponge Bob Square Pants showed up and making dumb, illogical plots became the name of the game.

The Pink Panther.....Blake Edwards was a genius, not to mention Henry Mancini....I think you would be hard pressed to find someone that did not recognize that theme song even today. They redid the old cartoons on DVD, if your into old style cartoons, I highly recommend picking those up, they look awesome on these new HD TV's

There is a time, when tv started to degenerate and it keeps still falling this time was initiated by the four apocalytical knights of tv.

Spoiler

form this point on, more and more pointless violance an replaced proper education of values in catroons or even mainstream series.

remember when good old cartoons like spiderman and he man and captain planet all came with those "advice" shorts at the end? When idols actually told kids whats a good thing instead of doing just the "beating the crap out of the bad guy with a hidden good intention" thingy?

Love to watch the original Tom&Jerry Cartoons, the ones where Tom was acting like a cat and not walking& acting like a human, the originals from the 1940´s are awesome. I was around 15 / 16 as here in germany the politicians started to discuss uh oh sooo violant, so this so that... couldnt believe the whole discussion, between "experts" about the series.
Tom& jerry cartoons after 2970 are only a poor try to copy. the originals. I r would rather watch the originals in black/white then the newer ones. The originals had a special kind of Humor and the slapstick comedy was extremly creative, especially the ones with Mammy two shoes in the Kitchen, things like making of a corsage a plane with eggs a sbombs. loooved that.. Cartoons like family guy and many others are just poor uninspired and ridicolous s##t .
There are in these days a few goood dcartoons with good slapstick comedy like: coop&cat is not so bad or Zig& sharko OR od course Rabbids invasion, pinky& Brain <3 Posted Image the kind of cartoon i love to watch even with 43 greets

edit. uh uh uh someone know the mighty mouse cartoons? Damn iam getting old i even know the black/white mighty mouse episodes

Growing up I always loved animation, period. The game changer for me will always be Ren and Stimpy. The style of the first few seasons is still unmatched in my opinion and was what initially grabbed me by the eye holes. Intensely detailed close ups, gorgeous backgrounds, and characters that just seemed so different from everything else produced before it's time really burned it into my memory. Slapstick, earworm intro that got you amped, commercialism, it had everything (except maybe applicable life lessons every episode)!

Good educational animation is still around you just have to sort through so many more options now. Recently I enjoy Nature Cat, Peg + Cat, Tinga Tinga Tales, Martha Speaks, Wordgirl, and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. I'm obviously against PBS budget cuts, except in the cases of Curious George and Caillou.

Family Guy is awful. My daughter likes Popeye the Sailor Man, btw.

Oh gods yes! Remeber that episode where hairballs were worth their weight in gold (that still makes me want to puke), or the one about teeth nerves (shudder).

Me and my brothers still use quotes from that show. "No sir, I don't like it.", "CIRCUS MIDGETS!!" "And what would you like to drink with that Kowalski?", "WHAT?! Do you know who you're talking to?! [THE button]". The list goes on.

So sad the original creator didn't own the actual rights to them. They really kiddyfied the whole show with all kinds of valuable life lessons and zany hijinks from your bestests palls. Turned something unique into something generic.

I couldn't agree more.
