No. When wow increases the he level cap they give you a pile of new content to level through.
No new content here. Not really analogous anyway, capabilities gained do not match cost time and effort needed to take advantage. Nevertheless extra grind is mandatory, as you are saying it is inescapable power creep, and respecs make you lose XP, which is COMPLETELY without parallel.
You want to compare to wow again? Wow has free respec and talent points cost you NO money. Wow NEVER makes you lose progress. In fact no good game comes to mind that penalizes you so.
If you prefer I go play wow instead mwo, just say so.
A Huge Step In The Right Direction, But...

been a couple years and no I didn't spend much time on it. was part of beta (to include the 2 years of beta after 'release' lol). so I've had my fill of the testing. not enough people using it to actually be able to test these days eh?
Because there is no reason to.
You download the test server (or update to the newest PTS iteration after the next comes out), play around in the lab and do a few 4vs4 matches, and are done. If you come late and the initial wave of people curious enough to download an entire game client for a little peaking is over, you only have your Machlab, testing grounds and private matches if you bring some friends.

the new skill Tree is much more expansive then the old Skill Tree,
Thats cool. I can't wait to play with it and its the reason i came back into the game 2 weeks ago and bought a pack to keep me occupied with new things to do. I already said, i would revel in a system where i can actualy have same variant with totaly different perks of my choice. First pts didnt allow that really because of how nodes are attach to each others. Cant wait to see the next.

the new system isnt 1:1 and i dont get why people are still comparing it as such,
You're right, you don't need to compare it to anything to realise that asking millions of cbills to level each mech is insane for everyone, old and new players alike.
As for 400xp per respec'd nodes. Until i see the tree i wont be able to really know. It seems(from the patch notes) they generalised the tree even more and there really will be only one way to build a mech. Making things people feel mandatory(like armor) harder to get probably means that people will have to find ways to maximise the acquisition of what they want... and do it for all their mech. Limiting diversity even more. But until i see it, i only know that 400xp it's VERY expensive if you want to remove all JJ nodes and put them in something else.
If i want to go back to an old mech and dont have the xp to tweak the mech so it's not the same thing i played last what do i do? I probably will look for another owned mech that has similarities instead. This isnt what i call a fun and engaging system and certainly isnt what i call customisability and/or choices.

They are changing a system where you have to buy the nodes(modules) once for all your mech to a system you will need to buy your node for EACH of your mech(both cbills and xp). Im sure you can see a pretty big problem there. Tweak it till its equal then we will talk about grinding more for more.
With the initial cbill cost to master your mech will put many in the hole. New players, being rid of the 3 rules will be instantly feeling the grind after their first few mech as the saving are gone and now keep adding up with every new mech they purchase. Extra cost for everyone at all level.
My 17 free mechbays are putting me 102millions in the red on the account of mastering price. 90million actually since i have 12mil in the bank. Im doing IIC right now(7newmech) and i have to do it with only 3 kind of engine(2 that came with the mechs) because i cant afford, and wont be able to afford, better customisability for quite some times. But it will slowy grow with the current system. I'll manage to stay afloat while increasing my inventory and be able to customize my mech in more ways than the one thats best for all mech. In the current system.
In the next system well i would not have been able to buy a third engine, a Clan 380xl, i would not have been able to even pay for those 7 mech mastery alone. Is that fun? Is that the future of mwo? Thats not considering all the mech i already own and still play randomly. Everything i own and have done will suddently become a burden. Who said "people have too many mech, we have to decrease the number of mech owned"?

PGI is reworking the Skill Tree, in other Games this would be Akin to them increasing the level cap,
if a Game Producer decides to increase the level Cap, And the Lv cap goes from 30(Max) to 40(Max)
would you complain that your Lv30 Character is no longer at the Max Lv in the game?
and would you Demand that your Character be grandfathered to Lv40?
think about it, this is no different then WOW increasing the Level Cap,

Other games are not 1:1. I thought we agreed on not comparing things that are not 1:1.

...Hey new players, sign up for increased grind! Don't expect to be able to afford anything!!"...
That's not true. Without the need to master 3 mechs, it will be cheaper for newer players to master a single mech. It's basically cost of the mech plus upgrades (which hasn't changed), plus 5.46 mil cbills, for a fully mastered mech. Assuming a 50% win rate, it's going to take over 100 matches to master (lets use 110), since you'll be getting weapon bonuses later, you should have a good idea how to setup your mech before you finish, thus won't need too many respecs. so if you make around 50k per match, (which isn't too hard) you'll easily make enough to master the mech while playing it.
No initial outlays of buying 3 mechs, no module costs, no playing 2 other mechs that you don't want. Not to mention, a significant reason to use premium time to reduce the grind. So while this setup doesn't help older players, it doesn't hurt new players much at all.
Now I certainly qualify as an older player, I have 182 fully mastered mechs and cannot possibly re-master all of them immediately under this new system, but realistically why would I want to? I have 3 fully mastered Ice Ferrets, that I would never use, some mechs like the Huntsman, I have 5 variants, but really only use 3 setups. So being honest with myself, I probably use less than half of the mechs I own on a fairly regular basis, and probably a full third I never bother with. I might have to work to get a full 90 mechs mastered, but so what, those are the ones I routinely use anyway. The rest I can just thank PGI for giving me a reason to never go near them again.
What I do worry about though, is that every time the dart board comes around and PGI decides to over nerf something, we be forced to spend cbills to respect mechs. For example, the dartboard lands on PPC's, so PGI decides to reduce speed to 50 m/s and increase heat to 70. Oh well time to respec every mech out of PPC's, and if we don't get back the xp we spent in the first place - here comes more grinding too....I don't look forward to that....
