Are we on our way towards creating the Star League yet?

No not yet, even if so I give humans the chance in 2456, at best and that's me being optimistic.

Not until self reliant fusion engines and these start to become available for public use. Posted Image

40 light years?
The fastest outward-bound spacecraft yet sent, Voyager 1, has covered 1/600th of a light-year in 30 years and is currently moving at 1/18,000th the speed of light.

One way that's almost 720,000 years of travel.....Damn you Einstein!!! Damn you to Hell....you and your speed limits...

40 light-years away in the constellation Aquarius. And for those not familiar with exactly how fast light travels, according to NASA, it would take you roughly 44 million years to get there using modern technology.

Kind of like how Nixon wanted to build one in Futurama...

Unfortunately we'll have destroyed ourselves or the planet long before we have the capability of manned interstellar travel or colonisation of another world.

We need Kearny and Fuchida to be born and invent the first successful FTL drive, first.

my money is on mach effect drives. they are claiming to be able to make f1-class (the engine the sat-v used) reactionless drives you can launch into space from the ground using nothing more than general relativity. or they could just be building a really expensive vibrator. it makes more sense than em drive at least and is based on peer reviewed science rather than the em drive which is some quacks invention and no-one has a clue if, how, or why it actually works.

its still not ftl, but mach effect would mean that mass isnt the constant we all assume it is but is a relative quantity that requires other masses to mean anything. this means they fluctuate. mach effect drive exploits this. as a side effect if you can make a mass fluctuate, you can make it dip negative sometimes, which means you can use it to satisfy the negative mass requirement of an alcubierre drive, provided you can come up with a jupiter mass of energy to power it. haxxor the universe!!!

me personally id rather have a food replicator that is permanently stuck on the bacon setting. because bacon.

Unfortunately, we need to figure out that whole folding space time thing first.

Speed is too slow, we need something faster :)...well, plus that whole time dilatation thing related to speed is a real bugger.

TBH, I highly preferred the later seasons a lot more.

Anyways, I for one welcome our alien overlords that are definitely living on those planets.

Ya'll know that we could communicate with just a 40 year lag time, right? That's less than the millions of years we need to physically get our butts over there.
