So, I upgraded my system from AMD Radeon 6970 to Nvidia GTX 1070, and I’m not seeing better performance at all. Actually, my avg. FPS have dropped to about 30-35, especially when things matters the most. Also when running same settings as before.

I have talked to others, read online, and as far as I can tell I’m not the only one.

To help PGI determine how big this problem is, I’ve made this poll. (I wanted to post this in Patch feedback, but that forum does not have polls) To help them troubleshoot, I’d like people with these graphics cards to leave a comment in this format as best as you can.

Performs better / the same / worse. (If upgraded from earlier system) good / bad if no prior system.

Prior system (if any), write only components not present on current system.

If you have solutions known to be working, please post. If not, try keeping the thread clean with performance feedback and system specs.

My specs

Performs worse.

Current system:
- Windows 10 Pro 64bit
- Intel Core i7-2700K @3.50GHz (Family 6, model 2A, stepping 7)
- MSI GTX 1070 (GP104-A, BIOS 86.04.26.00.3e, Driver 378.66)
- Corsair 4x4GB 1600MHz
- Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD (OS Disk)
- Intel 335 240GB x2 in Raid 0 (Game disk)

Prior system:
- Saphire Radeon HD6970

Other:
- Tried both full screen and windowed

Gaming Laptop
Current system: Asus RoG Strix GL702VM-DS74-HID1
OS version: Windows 10 Home (64-bit)
CPU: i7-7700HQ
GPU: GTX 1060 (6GB)
RAM: 16GB DDR4 (1 of 4 slots according to Task Manager)
Disk: Samsung 512GB NVMe (477GB NTFS partition, under 30GB available)

2-line user.cfg file has got me fairly stable 75fps today on Ultra at 1080p.

So, you only changed out the graphics card on a heavily CPU speed dependent game and expected...? MWO loves CPU clock cycles, To see the differences go to testing grounds on one of the newer maps or newer FP maps vs what happens in a live game There is a lot more work happening in the background when connected to live games.

I play on GTX1060, and generally it is okay, but now and again I encounter bad freezes. Especially so, when I first see many mechs at once (such as: I peek over a ridge on Polar highlands, and I see 10 of them not very far away), or when many mechs start shooting me at once. It happens even though I use medium graphics settings.

Got GTX 1050 in laptop and I had heavy fps drop when I updated driver. After my laptop returned from service I didn't updated driver and it is ok. Sometimes it looks like updating WIN may also cause some fps drop for some time but maybe it's only my imagination.

Question how do you mesure your average FPS when playing? I don't have the time to look up my FPS when in combat, there are more pressing matters ^_^

So how are you doing it? My system has a similar strong CPU but an older graphics card and I don't feel any problems...as I said I don't have time to look at the FPS during combat so I just go by feeling.
Testinggrounds is running fine for me but then that is not where the magic happens.

You can record a match with fps counter on. In my case I just saw big fps drop at testing grounds. Like from 70-60 fps to 40-30. Sometimes updating drivers makes matter worse.

Testinggrounds should definitly not influance your FPS. I have a stable 60 FPS in the training grounds (I set my GPU to not render more then 60).

Drivers can be a problem, also I didn't had that one so far. Still try to grab the current one and check that "clean install" or something like that it was called during the installation process. Nvidia will then uninstall every previouse drivers and make a clean installation.

You might also want to check if you have any forced AA active in your drivers. My general rule of thumb with Nvidia is to deactivate everything that is forced on the system and have specific settings for the game if something dosn't work with the ingame setting. Like some older games don't support AA.

[Edit]
Made a match with recording and had around 56 FPS on average
That said I run the game not at max settings because my GPU is a bit older but I use a 3440x1440 display and that is a bit much for the old girl ^_^

MWO is very CPU dependent.
For example going from 2500k to 8700k would be a bigger jump than from GTX1060 to RTX2070.

When I upgraded to 1080GTX I did lose FPS, but also found it was CPU related and base/default nVidia control panel settings. Turning off power saving mode on CPU and changing a couple defaults in nVidia control panel worked wonders. Why my old card was able to work fine with the power saving on vs needing it off with the 1080, I've no clue, but... (shrug)

You need a better CPU for this game, minimum now this days is a 4770K or Ryzen 2 series and avoid pushing the graphics settings on the game if your CPU/RAM can't hold it...
Textures: Medium
Model Detail: Medium
Everything Else: Low
That's the best config for good performance without sacrifice on visuals
4790K+GTX1060 here and the new GPU only boost my frames by 10-20% at best when I swap from a GTX 650ti.
The big jump was jumping from an old FX-6300 (@4,2Ghz) Into the 4790K (@4.6Ghz), the frames double for most parts.
Look, I stream using my GPU and even with the 30% lost on frames the game runs very well, so indeed is all about the CPU.
A good 8700K/9900K/Ryzen 3 would boost performance by +30% compare to my 4790K when it comes to MWO and a good GPU like an RTX 2080 would help to keep textures and others setting on high without ******** all over your frames.
