I've neglected the energy-missile heavy mechs of the Inner Sphere. I came up with 2 identical builds for different mechs; WHM-7S and the ARC-2R. Both have the same weapons, armor, engines, and heatsinks so the only differences should come down to hitboxes and peculiarities. If I wanted to, the Archer can be swaped to SRM6+As reletively easily but the Warhammer would lose a heatsink to do it. Which would you guys prefer?

What kind of mechs and builds in this weight-class would you use for the same role?

I would use the warhammer over the archer just because I don't like running around with the missile doors open.

If you are looking for pure brawl you should check out Orions.

The Cyclops missile variant is probably the best IS missile bomber imo. It's fast and has shield arms.

Cataphracts. They have armor quicks which makes them pretty much an assault mech. The OXP is my fav variant with ECM. Just being able to sneak up and 1 shot people with a AC10, 2 LPL, 2SL. That build has amazing heat efficiency and its on a XL340 so you move pretty fast.

Compare the first Warhammer to this one. WHM-7S(XL) This one swaps the std engine with a XL 340, swaps 2 medium lasers for medium pulse, but drops half a ton of SRM shots.

edit, fixed link, copied the wrong page.

Standard Engine

XL Pulse

Both of them are going to be toasty and require a lot of fire discipline.

This variant is better suited for a pure laser build. If it had 4 missile hardpoints it would be a different story.

For SRMs, I have really enjoyed the Catapult Cplt-C4

It's surprising tough for those Kamikaze runs and enough speed to get close (I'm often shouting 'Witness me!' while piloting this thing) The only hang up at times are the missile doors that makes you a bigger target.

For MLPs, the Thud is still one hell of a tank.

Try this one man .

Your build will be running too hot with the meds.
Get Endo for all of your mechs so you can optimize them.

I run xls on all other warhammers that i have , but dont like
to do it on this one .

Ew, XL 'Phract. Free kills are what those things are. The 0XP is a fantastic AC20/4ML STD brawler. A STD300-315 gives you plenty of speed and a fair amount of durability.

Its all in the twist and the movement. I personally like it and do much better but I also do hit and runs. The 20 and meds are good but limit your range greatly thats why you need speed.
