This was only briefly mentioned in the last round table and I was hoping Dane was able to make more of a point with it, but unfortunately it might have been overlooked entirely.

So, I'm creating this post as a place to bring more attention and detail to the idea.

There has been a lot of discussion about how to make the different career paths, particularly loyalists, more appealing. Many suggestions have simply been about increasing the level caps or changing some of the rewards.
These are all nice, but ultimately limited and short term options that will not fix the problem.

The solution is with making use of the points themselves. To have a lasting system we need a way to use those points and a reason to earn them back, that means using the points as a currency.

If we have different items we can purchase using our loyalty and reputation points, some permanent, others temporary, then we have a reason to continue earning those points. We can use them to build depth into the factions and depth into the career paths.

Many of these features can be represented simply via a small window in the Faction Play screen. A little icon, some text to describe it and the bonus provided.

Down the track we can expand on these ideas and start to bring more of a visual element into the maps we fight on. It will create diversity and immersion in the battles we fight.

Recently updated the Repairs, Rearm or Loot thread which bonuses from loyalty points could relate to.

EDIT 15/05/2017
Adding in some additional ideas to spend the points on based on discussion in the Repairs, Rearm or Loot thread

It's probably also worth setting a level that the points can be used from for loyalists to reduce the incentive of 'faction hoping'.
That's ok to get a few extra mech bays and so on, but the whole concept of being a loyalist is to stick with your faction, so 'unlocking' the points so you can start spending them could be a reward after getting to a high enough level with that faction.

In a way this would add to the role playing element of the game, but it would also create a horrible imbalance. At the same time it limits freelancers in their RP part.

The ideas on what to spend the points on are just some suggestions.
Feel free to add to that list.

It would be reasonable to think that if one player increases their drop deck tonnage in one Faction that we would have players in other Factions doing the same thing so I don't necessarily see that being an issue.
However keeping away from effects that would change mech damage, speed, armour etc should be avoided.

I will admit to not being overly familiar with the Freelancer career and options so if there are some good suggestions there, please add them to the discussion.

I still love this idea. It has much merit, and would add plenty of depth to the game (and even give reasons to be a loyalist over a merc).
