I finally got all of my parts in for my build. I'm downloading MWO now and hope to get some tests in soon. This is the first all new build I've done in a long time. Pretty stoked! The only parts I'm reusing are the video card and hard drives. I took pictures during the build... because I'm a nerd.

Components:
AMD Ryzen R7 1700 CPU
Corsair H110i All In One Liquid Cooler
ASRock Fatality AB350 Gaming K4 Motherboard
Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 Video Card
16GB Corsair Ripjaw DDR4 3000 RAM
Intel 730 240GB SSD
Toshiba 3TB 7200 RPM HDD
Corsair 850 Watt Modular Power Supply
Corsair Graphite 760T Case
Windows 10 Pro

My parts before installation
Spoiler

Stock Wraith Heatsink. This is the biggest stock heatsink I've seen.
Spoiler

With liquid cooler installed. The H110i was super easy to install on AMD. When I did the H50 on my 4670k, I had to pull the board and install a new bracket.

First impressions: Bios needs some serious work. Cant get my ram to run at full speed. I've tried 3000 twice and the system wont boot. I tried to OC to 3.8ghz, it didn't like that - could be related to the ram.

RIght now, it seems like the brick wall has been around 4.0-4.1GhZ for HardOCPers and the general consensus on RAM speed is 2933 or lower right now. Try the RAM at something like 2800 and see if 4.0GhZ becomes magically stable. Other overclock-related configuration tweaking applies, except apparently when using ASUS's tool.

RAM is a problem at the moment several articles recommend to put it on 2666 mhz.
And then there is also the problem not every brand of ddr4 ram wil work with some motherboard brands.
I myself will build a new system over 2-3 months hoping they have resolved most issues then.
Remember its all new now never has there been a cpu like ryzen been before so it will take some time before all glitches are ironed out.

Installed an updated bios. Now I can disable SMT! I got to 4.0ghz using 1.35 volts. I'm going to start testing MWO and see how it does

I have actual logs from MWO! I used MSI Afterburner to log GPU Usage, FPS and CPU usage. I created a graph of the FPS. I'm running my RAM at 2667, CPU at 4.0GHZ. MWO is set to High video preset.

Map: Forest Colony

Average GPU usage: 66% - Average FPS:64 - Average CPU1 usage: 54% - Average CPU2 usage: 52% - Average CPU 3 usage: 60% - Average CPU 4 usage: 56% - Average CPU 5 usage: 48% - Average CPU 6 usage: 28% - Average CPU 7 usage: 6% - Average CPU 8 usage: 99% - Total average CPU usage: 50%

FPS Graph
Spoiler

The system resources are all there for higher FPS, MWO just doesn't know what to do with them.

Still, ~50 fps during fights, not bad.

Are you still running 1080p, ninjitsu? Or did you move to 2k/4k? There is a widely documented issue with Ryzen having poor results at 1080p in games even though it does well when moving to GPU-bound situations at higher resolutions. The weird thing is this isn't expected since Ryzen also does well in other CPU-centric tasks other than gaming, so AMD is currently looking into why this is happening.

I am playing at 1080p 60hz.

60 hz smooth or do you feel the mouse sen jump all over the place when the amd processor spools up and down?

My amd processor fx 8320e seems to be wonky as **** due to their "power saving" technology... even after disabled and overclocked at stable speeds it jumps still..

I disabled 4 core and played a few rounds. I saw a noticeable improvement when playing on 4 cores. I don't feel like taking the time to extract the data, average and graph the results right now. But when I do, I'll post them here. Anybody else want to try running on 4 cores instead of 8 and see how MWO does?

since you have disable 4 cores.

try cranking up the clock speeds of the 4 cores and see if there is any improvement

That is the first thing I tried! unfortunately, even with half the cores disabled I can't OC any higher. Kind of disappointing to me. When I ordered the processor, I was really hoping it would go 4.5 - 5ghz as a quad core. Makes me wonder if the quad core parts will OC very well.

well i didnt expect the 1700 even with disabled cores still OC like a pig.

or prob its the BIOS issues like the X370s and the 1800X

The 1700 really isn't any different than the 1700x and the 1800x. I can run 4ghz just like the other chips. I'm glad I went with the 1700. The 1800x seems like a waste of money.

I just finished my own R7 1700 build, I went with an RX 480 and my RAM is only 2400Mhz ( Bought it before I knew how much of an impact RAM speed would have on Ryzen Posted Image ). I have yet to play MWO with an OC, and still need to disable SMT. I might try running with only 4 cores like you did and see how that works.

In MercJ's thread NARC BAIT posted a cvar for the user.cfg that may not be locked down by PGI that looks like it might help. Further testing required and your mileage may vary disclaimers apply, but it's worth a shot. The worst that can possibly happen is that it doesn't work for you and you take it out of the user.cfg.

Just built a new Ryzen 1700 build, with the Amd G.skill ram at 3200mhz, Asrock x370 professional gaming board..... I am on a wraith cooler till my new loop parts come, and at 4ghz OC, temps look good, at 1.30 volts. Setting at 35C right now.... Looking to pull the trigger on a MSI Sea hawk 1070 with the EK waterblock already installed.... on sale for $432 on amazon with a $30 rebate.

Anyone have any advice? Wait for Vega....or get the 1070 with this new beast of a CPU? So far I am loving it, and it is as good or better then my I74790K with my XFX 7970 DD 3gb card while playing MWO. Everything is smooth, no issues and I haven't even done a clean install with Windows 10, or installed the driver and software for the chipset.....

Talk to me guys, this seems like a dead topic now.....

wait for VEGA as that GPU looks to be the GTX1080 killer

Who knows AMD might pull a GTX1080Ti once Vega has fully mature

God, I really want to wait for it....but damn, that 1070 with the Ek block is looking sexy as hell for only $432 and a $30 rebate making it $400 shipped for free. Posted Image Posted Image

My XFX 7970 DD is a great card, but its showing its age.... time for something new.....
