Urbie is OP, and I have science to prove it!
Just kidding, too much fun in one day would often backfire...
Anyways, what I really wan to talk about is armor distribution and balance. Most people in the forum are proficient with car maintenance in some capacity. (my guess)
The thing is, weight distribution is VERY important to balance, and ultimately, how the car handles. You can take certain corners a bit better if you make it front or rear heavy. I feel, for a gyro based machine like battlemechs, shouldn't that be same?
What I am thinking is that most people strip armors on various body parts to reinforce or add weapons. In real life, that would create imbalance as it would deviate from original design, or the original balance distribution.
So here's my idea to add immersion. Say the lore design is 20/30/40/30/20 (la, lt, ct, rt, ra) and you strip arms to make it 20, 35, 50, 35, 10, it would create some sort of movement imbalance (left and right)
And maybe stripping leg distort top/down would affect breaking and acceleration ever so slightly.
Now, pros and cons...
Cons, well, I did raise this in the forum, so... that. URBIE OP!
Pros, create another pick and choose situation. You can intentionally create imbalance, but you will be affected in some ways. OR you can strip down equally to maintain balance, but your armor goes down across the board. It may encourage people to not min/max on armor values and choose between attack/defense.
Just an incomplete thought... feel free to add. URBIE OP!

Following that logic, Urbie should be toppling to the side every time it equips AC20--that weighs almost 1/2 of its entire weight!

Well, no, because it's designed to carry AC20 by default. Yea, I know technically it's tricky to continue my idea because... weapons easily shift more weight than armor. But...
Hum...
Yea, this is not thought out pretty well...
I guess under the old MW4 system you can kinda do it with the pod space system, which determines whether a large size weapon system can fit into a certain area... but instead of a limiter, it's a mere recommendation, where you can "stretch" the pod space (like... recommend a 2 slot space... you fit a 3 slot weapon) and thus, receive some sort of performance alteration.
And it wouldn't be drastic like 5% speed degradation or something like, just... maybe like you said... the cockpit will be slung to the side (like you are looking at a slanted cockpit) sorta thing.
Maybe...?

You got a point there... too much fun, and it backfired...

The gyroscope handles the imbalances of the mech and keeps it balanced out even when running across uneven terrain, flying with a pack of rockets taped to its back, firing huge weapons, and being hit by those same huge weapons (at least mostly).
The gyros in battletech weigh well over a ton, the forces they put out are incredibly immense and powered by a fusion reactor, they should have no issues with balance.
