You queue up and you're randomly placed in a stock IS mech. Obviously some variants would be much better than others. So you'd have to make a list of relatively equal mechs.

This has the benefit of leveling the playing field for new players. They don't have to fight enemies with better equipment or builds. It prevents them from running a bad build. Either remove skill tree or give every mech the same generic skill tree build. They won't have to face enemies with better skilled mechs. And it gives existing players a new option.

It can work with all existing maps and doesn't require changes in game play. It's a low effort game mode. Could even experiment with IS vs Clan stock mode with perhaps less players on the clan side.

Yeah, stock mode in QP would be really nice. It would give that classic MW/BT feeling where you actually need to bring multiple types of weapons for different ranges instead of just boating something specific.

In Stock matches specialist-mechs generally performed better than mechs carrying weapons for a wide variety of ranges. Just watch Stock Mech Monday footage or last year's MWOWC. There are exceptions of course, I think the Highlanders work great in stock and their weapon loadouts are all over the spectrum.

That said, making mechs assigned randomly as OP suggested would prevent players from selecting their favorite "optimal" stock mech; but how many players would you get in such a gamemode?

It would have been an interesting way to go with MWO development, but counter to the customize-how-you-want tradition games in the past of the franchise have supported.
