That’s just brilliant!

Let’s insult all the noobs, and have ridiculous game mechanics, and OPed mechs dominating the battle field and drive all the new players away.

Only super pilots like you need to stay, I am sure that this game can survive indefinably without new players.

I was once a scrub just like you not so long ago and im some circles i still am compared to other pilots.

Whine or learn the game, its a simple decision you have to make. So either put on your big boy pants, learn what 10% of your heat is and learn to rip offending parts off of mechs so they are easier to fight. You wont always win, buts whats why we play games right? If we won every time where would the fun be in that?

Overheat me once, shame on you. Overheat me twice, shame on me.

But with headshots you only need one overheat! :P

Best look for a wall to shut down into! OH no i have outlined the counter to Mcgrals tactic too! lol

Protip--you can do the same thing in a stormcrow. But with bigger lasers, and you can be effective after you lose arms.

Ask me how I know.

Dude, shut up. Heat management is not a "ridiculous mechanic" and flamers transferring heat to their target is nothing new. This has been part of mechwarrior and battletech since the beginning. I'm sorry if it's too hard for some sensitive little noodles out there to figure out but heat management simply cannot be removed from a mechwarrior game and if you can't manage heat then you should not play this game. You don't go into a donut shop and demand to be served steak. You go there for donuts. People who don't want donuts should go elsewhere. People who don't want to manage heat don't want mechwarrior and should go play something else. Plain and simple.

I never said heat management was new or difficult, and I have been playing Battletech for 30 years. So I don’t need a lecture or history lesson from you. I personally have no issues with the game play or heat system in this game, I do OK. I do have issues with the learning curve of this game, not for me, but for new players. Tons of people have stated that the learning curve too high. Look at metacritic and steam reviews, the learning curve is mentioned over and over. I also have issues with the trolls that live in the game and the forms that think it’s cool to drive off new players. The flamer nova build is a troll build and like all other troll builds are used by jerk offs, like yourself, that don’t actually want to play the game, they/you just want ruin others gaming experience. I am guessing you have a very sad life.

To be clear, my biggest concern is bringing in new players and not driving way any new ones we do get.

LOL, I have been playing since beta. I wouldn’t consider myself a scrub, but I would consider you an idiot.

Long ago, there were some smart well-spoken posters on these forms. Not me, but others. Not so much now. I would be willing to bet that most of you don’t talk to people in RL the way you do on these forms. Sad.

The problem lies with CLAN flamers Used on a CLAN mech. Seriously, IS flamers weight twice as much, IS chassis don't have -teen energy hardpoints and IS flamers still work if you know how to use them. Nova, a medium mech, can use the "instant disable" weapon for 3 tons and almost 0 heat while still having 6 energy hardpoints left and pod space to fit >35 points of alpha. That's the problem.

Basically, as clan flamers "cost" all around half as much to install as IS flamers (both in hardpoints and weight), they should be half as effective.

EDIT: of course, you could always make IS flamers twice as strong, but I'm not sure the outcome on gameplay would be positive. Or would it?

So many people complaining about this build, I've encountered it at least 5-6 times in my games this week and I'm yet to see it succeed in getting a single kill.

IMO the key problem is that it both a) requires getting into a 1-on-1 trade at <150m and B ) requires a taking an alpha strike in a squishy Nova first to get the overheat. If your target recognises your build that alpha will be aimed at an arm.

The skill level and luck required to set it up......players using this build are just giving their team an AFK IMH.

A tough learning curve is fine. What is not fine -- not even remotely close -- is the lack of materials that help ease new players into said tough learning curve.

I'm going to have to disagree. PvP games are not just about winning the fight/match. It is also about winning the battle of wills that also take place.

What you call "troll builds" "used by jerk offs" to "ruin others gaming experience", I call "psychological warfare in gaming". Whether you like it or not, there are people out there who actually play PvP games not for the literal "win", but to pit their wills and minds against others.

I firmly believe that many people are just not cut out for pure and "open" PvP games. Any loss or death is considered "ruining their gaming experience" by such people. I see so-called "troll builds" as great tools for identifying such people.

I wish there was an IS mech & build that could troll as hard as the Nova...

Anyone know one?

Hunckback instead of party back with 9 small pulses put 6 and 3 flamers ... done, and now go try and troll those who will see you coming and shoot you at 500 meters.

If you want a flamer-based pure trolling Mech, how about any of the Firestarters? Posted Image

@Mystere Can they mount enough lasers to do a headshot? I do have them but IIRC they only have 6 hardpoints max?

that's not how this game works apparently. we can't have balanced IS and Clan mechs because Lore Posted Image

Firestarters can have up to 8 energy hardpoints.

Having said that, there is a reason why I said "pure" troll build. Killing the enemy isn't going to be your primary function. It is to **** with their minds and induce them to make a mistake that can be taken advantage of. Posted Image

3 flamers and 6 medium pulse. ISSPL doesn't have enough oomph with just 6.

So you think calling someone an idiot is well spoken response?

All you have is grasping at straws and making silly childish insults. For being a supposed full grown man you sure do act like a child. Maybe kicking and screaming after your die isn't the way to learn to get better?

Games not hard, my nephew has a blast in flamer novas...hes 9 i find it funny a 9 yr old can counter this when you cant. Maybe later i will post a video of him killing me in this dreaded sml pulse/flamer laser nova your tenuous grasp on the game cant quite seem to find a way around.

also respect is a two way street, coming here on the forums and whining about how bad you are wont get any respect from anyone, We will just laugh at you and point out how bad you are like i am doing now. Had you shown up with valid reasons other then NEW GUYS WONT LIKE IT maybe we would have taken you seriously.

There is nothing in this game a new guy will like right away other then the mechs, its got a big learning curve most of us know that and explain that to new guys. But to use "new player wont like it" as your scapegoat is really sad dude.

Get gud and quit using other people and builds as your crutch, i know you dont like it and got killed by one or you wouldn't have ever been motivated to come here and post. You cant hide from me, i know how potatoes operate.

We could also 1v1 and settle this, im never against that. If you think im so dumb come 1v1 me and shut me up. But i bet you wont and even if you do you wont win...Posted Image

Why do it alone when you have 11 team mates to shoot for you?

Just build a flame mech, hang around your team mates and you KNOW when the brawl starts at the 4min mark, most of the enemy mechs will be pushing their heat limit. Just focus fire on one target and your team mates will have a lot of sitting ducks to core.

If you don't care about dealing that killing blow and just want to punish those laser boats (or those that never bothered to learn what the backspace key does), then any light/medium mech with 6+ E slots will do the job.

or play terra therma more to learn about heat management haha

really, people go with overheating mechs on basis, and then complain two flamers put them down
and then vote "polar maps", like polar bears
screw them, 1.60+ heat mgmt is minimum
