Currently there is no option for using the PTS through Steam - it is pretty annoying to copy the game files from the current Steam status, run the repair tool from the MWO Portal client and then access the PTS.
Why can't the differences in the game files not just shared through the Beta-System of Steam? Players could select in steam if they want to participate in the Beta (PTS) or play the regular game - Steam also handles frequent patching very efficient.
Using extra "3rd"-Party-Software for this is pretty odd - PGI, can you help us out here in the future?

I support this plea.
Other games have done it as well. There is the option to toggle "Beta Participation" in the options for any given game with some form of Beta. That would however "transfer" your installed game to Beta status, therefore needing to update before launching and needing to "downgrade" it again if you want to play on the live servers again.
However there are also examples, specifically in Early Access, where a Steam game comes with 2 seperate entries. One being the tested live patch, the other one being some experimental build. Doing that for MWO on Steam would make it so much easier for Steam users. You would still install two instances of the game, but you wouldn't need to install a seperate launcher from the website and have an awkward mix of Steam / Non-Steam clients.
Would be great if PGI could look into that at some point.

Give logically thought out criticism to get yourself listened to. Provide reasons and they may pay attention, give unbacked complaints and they can't respond.

I'd also like to be able to download the PTS files for non steam use. As we can with the live build.
