In this case, Sarna does not help all that much. Better use the MUL:

This is the list what was generally available in the Periphery during the late SW (up to 3049), which I think is the best list for the purpose of this story contest.

But keep in mind the lists take everything into account; even if there were only a handful of Mechs in all the Periphery, the MUL has it.
Even better than the MUL is perhaps an RAT, but I am not at home atm, so I can't provide one right now.

No, it's the idea of having to go back over something and revising it over and over again, that is difficult for me.
Not getting things perfect the first time, is what is difficult for me in all things, whether it be writing or art etc.
That desire for perfection rarely leads to fruition. Often times instead results in lethargy, procrastination, and general avoidance lol.

The cutoff for the competition is May 24th. I am working on a short story maybe more. I will post closer to the date as I need to finish and proof it a time or 3.

Anyone know what the character post limit is per post? Need to figure out how many posts I will need.

LOL this is my 1st stab at fan fiction. I have ran/played in a few Battletech/MechWarrior campaigns 22 or more years ago and have read pretty much every Battletech novel ever written (years ago as well), but writing fiction is new to me.

Having a blast though. I am about 2000 words in, and guessing this will be around 5k-10k all said.

I've probably got a couple thousands words down...problem is, they haven't gone anywhere yet.

If your story is going to need more than one post... Don't post the whole thing. Post the begining perhaps? Then add a PDF file link. Just goto https://www.dropbox.com/ make an account, and then upload the PDF and paste the link. (click on the file and get the direct public file link)

It will be far easier for folks to follow it..

I like that idea I will definitely try it out. I could even post the beginning soon as a teaser and add the link later before the deadline after I complete the rest.

well my story is under way. got the stage, theme and actors all set. It's kinda contrary to teh lore but it's the best i can do with how little i know.

I'll post the first "finished draft" and see what ya peeps think.

Black box recovered from Oberon Confedercy Battlemech piloted by one Michael Jones, one mission file found. Patrol #3456 found. Opening file, date 30** error data files suffer from corruption dates and times unrecoverable. Starting audio files, text, video and telemetry.

"Man why are we stuck on this backwater any way boss" whined Michael. "because the Oberon Confeds pay us to" barked back his commander one Alric Altarg "any way it beats being back in the Confederacy, just look at all this nature Elissa has to offer"
The other two mercs Saud and Klark chuckled, they knew the Elysian Fields were a rather rare sight in the Periphery and should feel lucky to be stationed in them. "whoa" said Michael who interrupted the laughter "I've got a ping on radar, not sure what it is but it's not like anything I've ever seen" "hmm, could it be a bug in the system" mused Saud , "or some one could be here" grumbled Alric "any way let's check it out in case and then inform command"
All four mechs moved in formation to the location of the radar blip. "Saud" Alric said "move up and see if you can see anything" "roger that boss" said Saud. He then moved up and peek over the ridge. "i see nothing boss..." Suddenly multiple red streaks appear and strike Sauds Firebee, in a instant his mech explodes.

"Oh hell, lance defensive formations we've got hostiles" yelled Alric. As the lance moved into defensive postions their attacker appeared. "what is that thing boss" said Michael and Klark in unsion. "i don't know but let's give it hell, the pair of you get with in range of your srm's and give it hell" "Yes sir!" Both Michael and Klark moved at max speed and open fire with their srm 2s at the hostile, suddenly the hostile explodes rather violently after the two fire at it. All three stare at what's left of the offender. "What is that thing boss" enquired Klark "son i have no idea, but what ever it is it wronged us and paid dearly for it. tag it and the confeds will bag it for scrap" grumbled Alric "Command this is alpha lance we've just encountered a unknown hostile battle mech and have sustained minor causalities" reported Alric but all he got beck in acknowledgement was silence. "command! command come in! This is Alric of Alpha lance" he yelled. "Hell, boys looks like either command was hit and god forbid that or we're being jammed. be that as it may we need to return to base and figure out what's going on"

Before Alpha lance left they dug a field grave for Saud and the unknown pilot, as they pulled the pilot out they made sure to take notice of anything out of the ordinary. "this woman has some sweet tatoo's" Karl said as he pulled the dead pilot out "pity she'd dead, i'd have asked her where she got them, though i don't get what's with all the bear iconography" Alric grumbled "could be a unit mascot or a god for what little we know" Suddenly a transmission was heard through thier headsets "this is Oberon Confederacy command to all units in Elysian Fields. You are currently under attack by an unknown force, Nyserta has already fallen to them. All surviving forces are being evacuated at all Confederacy bases....!" The transmission was abruptly cut off and another voice was heard "This is Star Captain Edwin Gilmour of 312th Assault Trinary, 1st Bear Guards we claim this world in the name of Clan ghost Bear, i have a Trinary in orbit, what forces dare to muster against us" over the comms several other Confed units barked in bravado claiming that they'd stop this Clan Ghost Bear trinary. Alric growled "all right looks like the stupid ones are going to get themselves shot, we're going to evacuate boys" Karl frowned and interjected "boss we're all that Elissa to defend them. we must join the defence" "enough" Barked Alric "i'm not having my lance die needlessly, now you can go once we get back to base" The march back to base was quite, the tension between Alric and Karl was noticable.

The scene they saw at base was one of horror, these Clan ghost bear had broken through all lines of defence and had smashed their way into the bases citadel. "oh god" Karl "we're too late, look they're shooting down the transports at the airfield!" Suddenly out of nowhere Alric's lrm alert blares into life "Oh hells teeth long range missile barrage inbound.....!" Screams Alric as his Marauder is showered in blue missiles before stumbling over cockpit advisably smashed from the barrage. Michael turns around to see Karls Firebee explode from what appears to be a LBX of a high calibre. "oh gods no, i'm not ready to die" screams michael as he breaks for tree cover. He makes it to the tree only to crash into something solid. "omf, what the....!" he looks up and sees what is clearly a assault mech in front of him but it looked like a bear, he then hears a voice "well freeborn today is your lucky day, i claim you as my bondsmen. Power down you mech and exit nice and slowly" Michael with gritted teeth does just that and powers down his firebee and exits it....


Error mission file incomplete.


Finally i've done it. Sadly i can't tell the word count with my program.

I enjoyed both your stories and I am sure the OP will as well.

Just FYI Volk Libre Office is free and has a word count feature if you ever need it

Not a story, but I always wondered why they chose "escort and atlas" instead of MFB which would actually fit in with the game and could be worked into FW for both sides.
