I used to name mine after cultural weapons based on the load-out and function of each variant. Also Celtic and Norse Mythology is something I draw inspiration from. I have too many mechs now really to keep naming them, and some rather goofy builds don't really deserve a serious name...such as my Vindicator 1-X. It's just Surat.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! that is fantastic! Some people are really clever in their decals. 3-4 days ago I ran into an urban mech that was decaled out to look like Trump (lets not do anything political, I come here to get away from the real world). I am bringing it up because it really looked like him lol. Had hair and a suit on. I know the face was done with the frowning face, no idea how they did the hair much less a suit and tie. I have extra MC because of events and mc consumables, I might go play with decals now.

On topic- I only name a few, usually mechs I like or ones I use a lot. My 5x5 lrm Golden Boy is named Old Mekdonald, because he farms puglandia for cbills. All my dragons are named in Roman/40kish names, Octavius, Decimus, Maximus etc. YLW is named Apollo.

i been away so all these great mechs with great names are either now invalid and un unskilled.
they will all come back again and the new tree might see them even better tailored to their namesake lol

Of my 110 mechs so far, only 10 have names... all EBJs. I kinda feel like only wasting brain power on my favorite line of mechs. (so no love for the other 100)

I name them along the line of attributes I associate with cats/weather.

I know my unit commander does the practical naming... like literally...

"hot"
"cold"
"range"

(though he could be more specific... "range laser" for example...)

I imagine maybe some hardcore lore guys are naming theirs like "Nicholas Kerenesky"

I don't know... do you name your mechs? And if so, what is your naming scheme?

Another ebj diehard YAY!
i am ashamed i only have 6 ebjs :( maybe ill buy 2 more because i got more free space since the 50% mechaby sale ;p

I give mine Ladie's names. Like in the movie "Gone in 60 seconds", where they name "their" cars.

I have a few exceptions, though.

Yeah after the weapons they use. Makes it easier to switch mechs in CW.

I name my best performers and favorites based on what they tend to do in game, some examples,
HBK-4g: Throatpunch
PHX-1b: Snakeeyes
ASN-101: Can opener
LBK-P x2: Singletary and Mecklenburg
LCT-1e: The Violator

I name a lot of my mechs based on loadout or their range profile for CW, but some of them are satirical. I've got my ACH "Cheater" with the 6 SPL build, for example, "Click2Win" as my Scorch, "Butt Burglar" cicada X5 and other silly nonsense like that.

Since it all started for me with the Battletech Card Game I still think of the Clan mechs as their IS designations (even slips through on VOIP sometimes with "get that Puma!!" etc) so I rename the Clan mechs I have as their IS name.

Timber Wolf Prime = "Mad Cat"
Timber Wolf S = "Mad Cat S" etc etc

Wish there wasn't the 12 character limit though - "Cldrn Born A" txt spk 4 u...

I go old school with my mech names. C1 for all laser builds. C4 for 2 or less missile racks. C5 for 3 or more missile racks.
But for my go-to builds, I incorporate a "max" into the name. Such as WarMax, TimberMax, etc...
Yeah I know. Lame.

I forget often that I can name my mechs. It shows up in game. Gonna start doing that again - if I remember.

I used to name my mechs after generals from the Three Kingdoms era till I ran out of names I can think of.

Some earn names when they strike me for what ever reason. My Griffin-2N is named Wolf Bronski f.ex. JJs and Missiles and round launchers, made sense to me.

Some I name, some I don't. I mostly depends on how attached I am to them.

There is a theme too (most of the time). My Novas were named after actual novae, my King Crab is named Sebastian, and my Stormcrows all have thematic names (Gandalf, Thunderbird, etc). The one Urbie I've bothered naming thus far is named R2-FU2.
