When did this forum become like mainstream media?

I think everyone needed to take a break from Skill Tree posts, and come together as a community to clown someone acting like an

ADAM
SERPENT
SERPENT
HALO
OMELETTE
LOCKOUT
EMPIRE

Good thing he'll consult his little NATO card and won't understand that.

I honestly treat it as a friendly banter and was just clowning around about the 26 original razen's alphabet.

But then he went berserk about how "Indigo" is destroying his 6 year old. I think that's the turning point for a lot of people too...

I'll say it again : allowing a six years old to play this game (or any MMORPG where the population is salty) is a MAJOR BAD IDEA.

Dearest Mechwarriors,

There is just something that irks me greatly about players who do not know the proper phonetics for calling targets. Below are the proper pronunciations for all twenty six letters in the English alphabet:

In our universe we also have callsigns for certain targets indicated by Greek letters: Alpha and Beta are points on Domination; Epsilon, Gamma, Kappa, Sigma and Theta are points in Conquest. From what I've observed targets are called by their letter callsign and grid locations are the callsign plus grid number. Educate yourselves fellas because knowing is half the battle!

All my hatred for whomever says Indigo instead of India,

Meh!

If you're going to be cool, do it in Russian or Greek instead!

And just for reference. <shrugs>

Well you probably posted this after playing a round with me, because I'm very active on the comms and I do not say "golf", "kilo" or "india".

I say "gamma", "kappa", and "indigo".

I'm well aware of the distinction between target designations and objective markers/nav-points, but that can be mitigated by simply clarifying your intended meaning. When I say "Focus target Kappa, CT", you know damn well I'm not talking about the conquest nav-point, and when I say "enemy contact at gamma 6" it makes it rather clear as well.

But the simple reason why I say it that way is that all of these alternatives have historical usage in military phonetic alphabets, and I hate the way golf, kilo, and india sound. When I'm in the middle of a conflict, I don't want to be thinking about golfballs, coca-eena, or thinly mustachio'd gentlemen soliciting sexual favours from random girls on facebook with terrible english.

G'day sir. Posted Image

I called Indigo today on Mining Collective. Rifleman India/Indigo/Inderpy was cored rear and cherry red, the word had to be spread.

Here is the simple and true reason Indigo is used.

It is a very distinct sounding word that begins with the letter "I".

Simple as that.

On the battlefield when gunfire, explosions, shouting, etc is going off around you and your trying to relay information over your radios, it is rather imperative that whatever phonetic you use for a letter is distinct and cannot be confused for something else. It is near impossible for you to confuse "Indigo" with anything else.

Indigo
India
Inigo Montoya

I'm not some OCD wannabe "ex military" type who is so **** retentive I have to pretend MWO combat is for real and requires NATO reporting alphabet. As long as it's clear and concise it's good enough for me.

Well, you've got to try and make it distinct. You can't just use any "I" word. If I said "Focus on 'Idiot!'" most pug matches would turn into a teamkilling fiasco.

are people still ranting about this? you should be happy when someone actually does call targets, not bitching because they are doing it wrong.

"Indigo, India, Isabella" etc. They all start with "I". Very easy and intuitive to figure out. right?

I would gladly take a team mate using an improvised phonetic call over a team mate yelling "E" or "G" or maybe "B" .

So Indigo or India it's better than just "I" or "Y" or fly? By? ...<sigh>

Agreed. My other favorites are when team-mates call out useless data like "I need help over here!" (Where is "here?!") or "Ahh!!! Don't go that way?!" ("Ok... where am I not supposed to go? Why?") Ugh!

I'll take an informal alphabet with actual useful info vs. the usual nothing any day of the week.
