Hello, I'm pretty new here, but I keep seeing phrases and things that I don't quite understand.
Is there some sort of guide or something?

I get most of the abbreviations for the weapons, from playing all the older MW games, but it's things like Pugs, Poptarts and a load of other things I don't get.

Sure, just keep asking and i'm sure everybody will help.

Pugs = PUG stands for Pick Up Group. That basically means random players are thrown together to form up a "team" to make a match possible for one or both sides to fight.
poptart = mech(s) with jumpjets and fire and forget weapons like PPCs. : jump, shoot, hide

The very second post of the Short Question Short Answer thread has a huge FAQ/guide thing that I made. The images are out of date, but it is still relevant and evidently still future-proof (as I cover weapons we're about to get in the next few months, 3-4 years AFTER I wrote it!)

Within the spoiler of that post (near its end) is a number of terms commonly used in MWO defined for you. These aren't BT-specific, but MWO gameplay-specific.
