After having fun one day, I went to the official forums and read some of the messages so I decided to get serious about breaking the game.

First, a spreadsheet of all weapon, melee and DFA values.

Note the DFA actually is 2 hits each possibly doing the damage listed.

I tried earlier today 3 Catapults plus a Commando spotter on each side. Looked so nasty I tried again with a Panther spotter and gave the AI Atlas, Griffin, Centurion and Commando.

Noted issues:

1 - graphical glitch with Indirect Fire.

2 - Missiles may be too strong in dealing Stability to target.

3 - First combat round, Mediums fire in Phase 3 but move in Phase 1.

4 - The AI needs to improve.

Couple of fun ideas for you:

Locust spotter with evasive pilot skill, sprint all the time!
Pair this with either two Catapults or Awesome 8T's that both have multi-target....
Let the LOL's roll in as you get multiple back shots across a full lance of mechs....

Battlemaster+inspere+melee=fist into head kill shots.

I have done Locust-1M with LRM5s under cover using either Sensor to spot targets for others through terrain or raining LRMs on targets others spot.

Today, 3 Jagers and a Kintaro, at 11 minutes you can see near max range for AC2s.

The 50 tonner Challenge.
Take 2 Centurions (either) and 2 Trebuchets, try to beat 4 Hunchbacks (2 4G and 2 4P).
Hunchbacks have better short range & melee plus 4P does not seem to make enough heat when firing all Lasers.
Your team has better long range, maneuvering and 4LRM15s can knockdown a Mech.
Both sides have the same cost.
After battle, give thoughts on how balanced 50 tonners are.
Example:

Okay so I ran that challenge twice, first time I lost. And I lost because I got greey and split my fire.

Second time around I just focused down one mech at a time.

1st round of contact:

1 HBK-4P Red Team had no shots on my team, due to position behind cover of Trebs, while my Centurions had Balwark skill and were in a tree line for cover as well as entrenched. I returned fire with both Trebs using indrect with LRM/15's, this caused the first HBK-4P to fall on it's back, Red Team moved forward with all other units this turn. I used both Centurions to core out the CT with called shots CT from AC/10's and Mlas.

Round 2 Forces:
Red Team;
2x HBK-4G
1x HBK-4P

Blue Team;
2 x Trebs
2 x CN9-A

Round two was a little more dicey, as the river became site of a 3v2 fight, again both Trebs knocked down a HBK-4P, centurions finished it off. One CN9 lost it's LT from focused fire of two 4G's.

Round 3:

Red Team:
2 x HBK-4G

Blue Team:
2x Trebs
2x CN9-A

This round was a 2v2 as I gave my Trebs a round to cool off, I positioned one HBK-4G between my two Centurions, keeping the damaged one in entrenched to reduced incoming damage, while my second CN9-A positioned itself behind and critted out the AC/20. Entrenched CN9-A was knocked down after losing the left leg.

Round 4:

Red Team:
2 x HBK-4G

Blue Team:
2x Trebs
2x CN9-A

I lost my damaged CN9-A this round due to a lucky crit from an AC/20 to the head, how ever both Trebs fired this turn knocking down one of the HBK's, I returned the head hit with an AC/10, killing the pilot on the HBK that still had the AC/20.

Round 5:

Red Team:
1 x HBK-4G

Blue Team:
2x Trebs
1x CN9-A

This round was a forgone conclusion, the HBK moved to engage my Centruion with melee, exposing it's back to both Trebs, both Trebs had moved ontop of the ridge, both alpha striked the back of the HBK coring it out from behind.

IMHO, this match was decided by position and team work, something that the AI didn't really apply, had it focused down my mechs, I would've been in bad shape and lost the match.

A short series where I try to pick Pilots for the AI based on either highest Gunnery score or with Abilities I know the AI could use well. I take the worst rated Gunners. The goal was to see how good a fight the AI could put up with advantages.

Part 1, Clash Lance level

Part 2, Battle Lance level

Part 3, War Lance level

Current thoughts on the AI and Pilots

I add in 4 Hunchbacks.
4H
4J
4SP
and the 4N.

Then take them out for a match.
