after just playing a couple of games after the skill tree drop, my mech's will now randomly move between speed settings, without any player input, this is very annoying since it takes constant input on the "WASD" keys to keep a mech still

I haven't experienced that myself. Are you sure there isn't a gamepad plugged in somewhere?

Got same problem with my Spider in caustic valley today. Didn't happen with any other mech but i was trying the JJ nodes impacts and he started to act bad after a couple of jump but stopping after 15 or 20 sec each time.
Just throttling up and down by itself and wandering around. Looked like the locked key problem that i have seen in the past but not constant.

Like MechaBattler said, it's usually a game pad (or some device registered as a game pad even if it isn't actually one).

A friend of mine had similar problems. His Mechs rotated right without any input. He tried everything from restart to re-install of input (mouse, keyboard) drivers, nothing helped.
At last it was an Engine error which occured after alt-tabbing. He had to tab again back and forth to solve the problem. Maybe an Engine error with Windows 10/64 bit/whatever.

As a general rule, alt+enter to switch out of MWO seems less liable to mess up the game client than alt+tab. Not sure if it would help with this, but it seems to solve a lot of other issues I've had when alt+tabbing over the years.
