Here is the topic on my mind. I see a couple threads in the factions about what kind of mech they will be piloting. Interesting to see what my prey will be piloting as a merc, but what about the competition? What will my fellow mercs be piloting?

I for one am leaning most towards the Jenner. Fast and with a poerful jump and if I understand Mech weapons enough (I don't XD) it at least looks like it packs considerable firepower for a light mech. I could do some real nice hi and run skirmishes with such a setup. I could weld a spoiler on top of it and maybe attach spinning rims to it's ankles. Perhaps paint a racing stip on it for speed and hang some fuzzy dice in my cockpit for luck. If anything falls off, i'll be carrying duct tape in the medical locker just in case.

What about you guys, my fellow lone wolves and mercs?

The Jenner looks like a metal ***** with legs. That is all, carry on.

I was thinking the Raven looked more like a metal dick with legs myself. The Jenner looks more like a turtle with two legs sprouting from the bottome of its shell rather than four from the sides.

In all seriousness, the viability of sticking to light mechs will largely depend on how well role warfare is implemented. If i isn't done well, and exp/c-bills are awarded mostly off of kills/damage done, it will take forever to kit out your garage.

As for the Jenner specifically, 4 lasers and an srm pack is good armament for a light, but that comes at a cost of heat dissipation and armor. The JR7-F drops the SRM's for more armor, but you will still run into the problem of being unable to lay down sustained laser fire. Hit and run attacks will be your only option, and everyone you're fighting will know this, and be ready. I would really love lights to be viable, but I'm not 100% sure they will be.

I think they've put a lot of effort into making lights worth using in this game. I would guess that the extra points you get for spotting the enemy first will make up for causing less direct destruction, and to be fair you can probably do quite a bit of damage if you use a light mech with intelligence. Attacking heavier mechs from behind while they fight your team-mates and then running away before they target you should work for Jenner pilots with all those lasers.

Exactly, I have no intention of getting into a slugging match while piloting a Jenner. Hit and run tactics are exactly what i'm planning on and if i'm on a team with other heavies, it would be excellent to have them distract an enemy as I dart in from behind to lay down ome pain on the softer bits of mech in the back before darting off again.

Being that it has been years since I've even had to think about anything battletech besides hoping a new game would come out, it's a bit of a toss up. However I am leaning towards Raven as a scout which depending on the popularity of the roll is subject to change. As a support mech Im leaning towards Trebuchet and considering Catapult depending on opportunity and once again, popularity.

The info on this site is outstanding but despite it's abundant availability I still find it difficult to get a clear picture of exactly what I want and what I want to accomplish it with.

Ooooooh Raven! That one is definitely one I wll be keeping an eye on at release. Being a former Electronic Warfare specialist in real life I am interested in seeing how an EW mech turns out.

Am REALLY looking forward to piloting Ravens and other niche mechs. Knowing how ew could turn the tide of fights in EVE I am really hoping that role warfare is implemented well in MWO.
