These hands indicate a lack of tolerance for bold statements by the inexperienced.

Hunchbacks are fine... except that they are too slow to get away from anything that wants a piece of them. Also they lack the ammo hang in a firefight. Nice if you wanna play second fiddle to some long range nasty though. Bridesmaids of the battle tech world IMHO. Medium mechs need to be more versatile I think.

Mainly hoping to eliminate the atrocity that is hands on a mech. Mechs with hands = fail. Hands indicate a lack of firepower.

This is like saying a tank with a tow hook is a waste of time. One of the major concepts in BT combat is raiding the other guy for supplys. Guy has a load of AC ammo you have to have a hand to pick it up. Also while the Hatchetmen will always be a wonderful mech, in TT rules anything with hands can grab a I beam for instant club.

Especially since mechanically, hand actuators have absolutely zero effect on a Mech's ability to mount weapons. All they do is take up a single critical slot in the arm. They don't weigh anything. In fact, a Mech without hand actuators is penalized in combat, because it cannot punch in melee.

But hey, I wasn't even going to bother, considering the "quality" of the rest of his post... :)

A Hunchback should be a hunchback , I hate those powergaming configs made by pilots who have no sense of the BT- universe.

But if everybody is doing it? There are a large numbrer of people who have made it very clear that they will be playing the game to win. I may have prefered a different game set in 3025 with a very limited MechLab. That isn't this game and we need to play what we have.

Just putting a claim in on being the first to come up with what I think will be a relatively common config. One day, I'll be able to post links to this thread and say **** noob I had that config idea first.

Mathematically. its a solid long range config.

Mathematically, it's a "you'll be shutting yourself down and/or blowing up within 5 rounds of real combat" config. I have sense to believe that you gave this build absolutely ZERO thought whatsoever.

Very possibly, it was just a sort of "Back of a napkin" config that I came up with as I was looking at the mechlab screenshots. I'm a fan of the Hunchback, and I do like me some AC20 but its also fun to mess with people expectations every once in a while. Not many people would be ready for a Hunchback prime with most of the damage output coming from the arms. Still until the actual game comes out its just naval gazing.

As far as the hands comment, I just find them silly. It is the year Three-zero-damn-forty-nine, ranged weaponry comes in varieties so vast and devestating as to boggle the mind. Why in the heck am I preparing to engage in fisticuffs with the enemy mechs?

Bonus points to you if you had the mental image of a hunchback with its hands up like an old timey boxer (with handlebar moustache) when you read "Fisticuffs". Cus thats the impression I get whenever I sii its noodly little arms and silly little fists.

To give Gierling credit where it's due, he's correctly identified the Hunchback as probably the most moddable mech in the game. Just look at the hardpoints of the -4G, -4P &-4SP (all seen in-game), and you'll see what I mean. I don't like the opening post build myself, but that's just me. If I had a Hunchback with arm-mounted large lasers, I'd take a -4SP with a SRM-launcher for close-in work. Or medium lasers.

Where's Khobai? He's usually all over any post involving small-bore autocannon. :)

Do you think the Catapult with it's nose winch spends it's day playing Spider Mech or something? Hand's weren't intended to combat. Solaris changed that.

So you would be preparing to engage in fisticuffs because that's what the audience likes. So there.
