War Robots has been a popular and successful third person mech game shooter on mobile platforms, from Android to iOS and has recently added Amazon tablets. Recently it has begun to enter PC platforms via making it available on Facebook Game Room, with already over 100,000 likes in the first week. They might also be looking to put their game into Steam, despite being a straight mobile port like the Facebook version.
Then they launched a demo of their VR game in Steam. Now this is starting to look familiar, more like Mechwarrior now in look and feel, but with War Robot mechs. They say this is the marketing extension to help sell their mobile games, but its clearly a demo and a foundation to something else that can become its own game.
I don't plan to go VR in any near future. but that oen looks kinda nice, mechs feels slow and heavy, also have damage sections (nothing sucks more than those, robots or mechs that die when you 5x hit an arm since those are just standard shooters in mech textures).
So like the enemies slowly stop attacking when you reach critical damage as to not ruin the ending cutscene, and the two big mechs with big guns at the end can't fire any of them. That's just precious.
That's only a trailer. Furies are not even supposed to jump like in the trailer scene.
You can play the teaser-shooter at Steam. Oculus Rift needed.
As a teaser, its only meant as a sales promotion for the mobile game. A straight port is now available for PC via Facebook Gameroom though, and like World of Tanks Blitz, Pixonic appears considering making the game available on Steam as a straight port.
The VR game is something else. Its like a completely new game, and the map in the VR is not even on the mobile game itself.
