EDIT: What was predicted inevitably came to pass. Despite playing many matches, some players were never given the opportunity even to drop in some of the modes they needed to win the final 200MC in the FP Challenge. See my post on P3 if you want to retweet something that just might encourage PGI broaden the win condition a little.

---

The new Faction Play Challenge contains a dreaded "Random Mode" Challenge. Ie. a Challenge that you cannot complete unless the matchmaker drops you in the correct game mode AND you win that match.

History shows that this always ends badly - for everyone.

1. Despite dropping over and over, a large number of players will not even be given the opportunity to play the modes they need to complete the challenge.

2. Towards the end of the event, selfish players will disconnect at the beginning of matches when they don't get the mode they want - ruining that match for everyone else.

The only way to nip this imminent trainwreck in the bud is to Tweet Russ Bullock and Chris Lowrey now and ask them to change the Random Mode requirement. (This Challenge was probably Chris's idea, because he's newish and hasn't seen it fail previously.)

I believe Russ and Chris will listen to us if enough of us ask via Twitter.

Here's my Tweet if want to retweet it. Here's what I Tweeted:

@russ_bullock @Chris_C_Lowrey Great new event thanks! But PLEASE change Random Mode requirement. It will cause many to disco, ruining match.

(If you don't intend to participate in the event, don't like Faction Play, don't like Events, don't think you should need to send Tweets, etc etc etc - your concerns are valid, we get it, no need to reiterate those concerns in this thread. I posted this thread for the sake of those who want to make the event more viable.)

Over to you.

I doubt they'll listen, but it's worth the try.

Event reqs like this always cause mass disconnects and just aren't fun.

Good point, it's a genuine problem as we've seen before.

It's also a bit sad if you can't tie event challenges to specific game modes though, that seems to limit the design space of event design a bit much. I wonder if there is a solution to this?

Frankly I'm more concerned about launching a Faction Play event with the current population imbalance, I'd like to hear something real about the future of Faction Play and Faction tech balance, events won't fix that.

Yep. Every time they do something like that, most of us ending not getting the match type we need to complete the event.

And remember, these are up to 30 minute matches! So it's a big time sink when you keep getting the wrong modes over and over.

As the end of the event gets nearer, you start experiencing matches where half your side disconnects because they didn't get the mode they needed. So it's a crapfest for everyone left.

Hell, even I was tempted to start disconnecting last time they did this. (I didn't. But the fact that I even seriously considered becoming "part of the problem" is sufficiently concerning Posted Image)

Some potential solutions:

1. Reduce the requirement so that you only need to win say 4 of the available 8 (?) modes. This would significantly increase the odds that the mode you drop in will be 'useful' in terms of completing the challenge.

2. Reduce the requirement to "win" to just "participate and achieve a Match Score of 100 or more". This isn't a good solution though as history shows we'll still struggle to experience all the modes we need.

3. Give every player three wild cards with which to complete three modes gratis.

4. Change the matchmaking algorithm so that players only drop into the kind of match they require to complete the challenge. Hard to implement.

Just a few ideas.

I don't play FP. I have no intention of playing FP. But even I can support this as the problems as described in the OP should be pretty obvious. At the very least they should consider reducing the reqs to only include the most common gametypes played so that people have a fair chance of completing it.

Matt Newman is the one setting up the Events, I believe. I doubt that Chris has anything, at all, to do with them.

That said Chris has been an absolute CHAMPION at trying to help, where possible. Raise internally etc.

Big props to the guy for trying to make a difference.

I thought it was Chris. But anyway, let's Tweet Matt, too. Can't hurt either way.

Yes. The likely outcome is: we will spend the majority of the event near the end of the slider bar...where Siege is by far the most likely game mode to be played and the others will be rare

I've never tweeted but I'll make an exception for this.

This is outright stupid and out of touch with any reality experienced in the past couple of months.

Would love to see this twitting campaign work out, but come on people, it's Russ Bullock and PGI, they actually think "random" is really neato.
