Seems like it would be a logical step to take seeing as how there is world of tanks on PS4 and basically has the same movement mechanics, and plenty of buttons to assign weapon groups to.

As for people that will argue that aiming with a controller would be too cumbersome, remember, there are much much much faster FPS games than this available. Battlefield, Modern warfare and there are players with amazing twitch shot skills, and can easily quick scope with a controller.

I suppose the only challenge really(well, aside from having to refactor the code the code base to work on a console), is to get over the fact that some mechs have lower actuators and some don't. I think you'd just end up with upper actuators.

Thoughts?

The only reason this came into my head is because there are many times when I'm plopped on the couch and would lover to fire up my ps4 and jump into the game.

How exactly would this work on a controller? There aren't enough buttons.

PGI can't even get the game to work well on PC. Do you honestly think they're remotely capable of making it work on a console?

World of Tanks can kind of pull this off because of how much more static the game is - It's a lot easier to control a tank that's generally glued to the ground, only has one weapon, and all of which generally control the same. Mechs are a bit more varied than that.

And then there's the button issue (There really aren't enough buttons). And probably most damning, going through all the menus, skill trees and Mechlab with a controller would be infuriating.

Oh, and the last time they put Mechwarrior on a console they did this. Some people are still angry about it.

You do the same thing they do with other games: simplify it. There are tons of edge-case buttons you could live without. As long as you're not competing with PC players it's not a big deal to merge and discard some hotkey abilities.

Mechwarrior 2 was on Playstation back in the day, albeit with a slightly more arcade like tone to it.

Mechwarrior 2 was on everything. I wouldn't be surprised if they ported it to those scientific calculators you can play games on.

MWO has already considerably simplified Mechwarrior. Simplify it any further and all you'll have is MechAssault.

x, square, triangle, circle: weapon groups 1-4
top 2 right triggers: coolshot, consumables
top 2 left triggers: u dunno what, weapon doors?
left stick: feet movement
left stick click: I dunno
right stick: torso movement
right stick click: zoom, + advanced zoom
touch pad: i dunno, command wheel
VOIP: automatic voice detection

then you have the right left up down pad for whatever, heat, night vision...

How many freaking buttons do you use lol

The ps4 pad has12 +2 buttons including the push stick things.

Although, now thinking about it...I don't know how the mech lab would work, clicking skills would be a nightmare..

PGI's license does not allow them to make console games.

I really doubt that's a problem. It's not like anyone else is making them - I'm sure a phone call and a couple months of 'going through the motions' negotiations would sort that out.

Possible, but the game is such a niche product that I doubt porting to console would bring in enough business to justify the cost of doing it.

You have the one stick for moving, the other for aiming, 4 buttons on the front of the controller, 4 buttons on each side of the controller top, and if you press the sticks down 2 more buttons.

That covers 6 firing groups, lock on, zoom, and you still have 2 buttons left over for things like MASC and jump jets. Seems fine to me.

Not quite... They were only allowed to make it on Microsoft consoles however (because they own the mechwarrior video game rights) and they felt that wasn't enough reason to port it because you really need to also release on PlayStation for maximum potential income.

Seriously. My AMD cards scream at me for the crime of liking battletech every time I boot MWO.

That issue is easily rectified believe it or not.

My NVIDIA card gets pissy with MWO too. MWO makes a pretty regular habit of crashing my video driver, which obviously crashes the game before Windows can reinitialize my driver. MWO is the only program I run that causes my driver to crash. That being said though, I've been told that this is an issue with Cryengine, not just MWO. I haven't been able to personally test that though since MWO is the only Cryengine game that I have.

So you're going to stop aiming to fire a weapon?
The four triggers would have to be weapon groups.

But I do agree that this game could work with a controller.
