Made it solo to Tier 2, no group drops, no drops with friends, nothing.

I'm wanting to check out Faction Play but hear many negative things about it.

I don't have a clue on how to play but it looks interesting to me, new objectives, new/different maps, etc...

Any reason not to pursue it?

No harm in trying, however there is a match maker in solo queue that creates two teams of roughly equal skill. There is no match maker in FP, so the difference in combat effectiveness will differ dramatically than what you're used to. Losses will feel grueling until you find a competent group that communicates and coordinates loadouts to fight more effectively, if this doesn't sound fun then FP may not be for you.

I play this game regularly only because of CW. The QP death matches bore me quickly (get the pun?), and I haven't had the time to play on a comp team so CW it is.

Everyone that ******* about CW doesn't understand one basic fact - they control their own destiny.

If they play CW like a quickplay game they are gonna loose. If they take crap mechs and load outs they are gonna loose. If they do not communicate they are going to loose. Each of these variables is an individual responsibility, and most of the people that gripe on the forums refuse to acknowledge these facts.

Here is my 1st grade version of CW:
- Your team is limited only by dropdeck tonnage and the map/mode, plenty of imagination to play with - so if you all want to drop assaults, or lights first wave you can. Tactics are numerous, try them all - each has its merits
- Much more competitive than quickplay without the rigors of comp play schedules
- Play whenever you want. There are no set schedules
**this is the most important thing**
- Find a group of people you like playing with and drop as a group. CW is a TEAM based game. A bunch of pugs might squeak out a win one out of ten times. There are plenty of units looking for players. Find one of those units that meshes with you.

It's fine to drop solo in FW....but you will often be up against groups who will make things extra challenging for solos. Best advice I can give you is to get on Teamspeak....FRR hub (IS mostly), Strana Mechty (Clan mostly), Comstar (is/Clan) and get in a group. You generally have to ask in, but if you are a tier 2 just trying to learn the mode, even most organized units would be glad to have you along if they have space. Just tell them you need to know all the particulars about the mode and generally they will tell you much of the basics (and then some) that will help enable you to succeed in FW

If you stop by Strana Mechty TS hub, 07 (Bacon) would be glad to have you along for some drops....I am sure many other units would make you the same offer.

Best of luck!

Simply - Don't drop solo.

The mode is not designed for it. Get on TS, get into a unit - team up.

You'll then enjoy FP. It's very simple.

Especially as it's a team game... I mean, playing in a team, as a team? It's gotta be some kinda sorcery I tell you.

I have different reasons for loving CW, be it solo dropping, small group dropping, or full 12 man dropping, But i think im still t3 in QP, because its a ******* cancer game mode. Try it, you will get games where you cant even open the gate because the other team is stomping you. You will get games where the enemy wont come in the gate because you wrecked them the wave previous. Just remember every single game will teach you something. If you think you cannot learn something from a drop, then this is not the mode for you.

PGI's original design of FW was to confine it to units only.

There's no point in playing "Community Warfare" if you can't play it as a community.

had a guy today that was dropping with two trial Mechs
we realized what was happening when he started complaining about the Mechs over heating
so I explained about remapping the keys
he next he said he was going to buy a wireless mouse and I was able and others to tell him not to get a
wireless mouse

I guess FP gives a little more time for people to ask questions

I am basically a pug commander almost every time I see KCOM or other units I type crap but I will be in
command (or more of a want to be drop caller)
sometimes people listen most times they don't but I do my best to teach and point out things to do

like don't shoot the gate you have to shoot the gate generator or shoot into the opening
of the aux gen

a lot of little things that know one talks about
the game mode itself is alpha strike warrior with very little real tactics
but its all that we have

i find i make more cbills in fp than in qp for the same amount of time played. for example durring the previous event i made a few million cbills, then this one i earned enough cbills to buy and equip all 5 javelins, including the dreaded dhs upgrade which only one of them had. of course i ride the bonuses and use a mostly hero/special deck to maximize profits.

being good helps too. being able to work as a team is better.

Call it whatever you want, but it isn't warfare by any stretch of any imagination in any frame of reference..... period. I've stepped in puddles deeper than this.

It's more challenge. It's more "tactical".

If you want to  try, take Clan merc contract. You need a unit, which you can create for only yourself, no charge. Why Clan, well easymode.

Yeah if you want more serious play, find a existing unit to go with them. Then it's easier and kinda more fun too, even with IS.

I've dropped solo in FP for years. (I also drop in groups). Never really had any terrible issues.

Sometimes you will get stomped with completely ultrabad teams, but unless you're playing with a top tier unit and good DC than that's gonna happen sometimes anyways. And even in the stomps, you can make your 1K-1.5K damage, get a few KMDDs and swing home.

I only play this game for CW. It might not be your thing, but it doesn't hurt to give it a solid go.

You play solo. CW is not for solo play.

Read the warning message. Read it twice.

Every time I entered CW or FaP, I was thrown into a team of 4 or 12, depending on the mode. I never had to play solo. ;)

I tend to be commanding as well but avoid pug commanding since it's so frustrating to do so.
I did notice when talking a little bit angry makes pugs listen better. :P
Probably should also learn to lead from the back instead from the front so I can motivate people (shoot their backs) to actually do a push when called for. :P

Yes, this one:

I don't know what the hell you people are talking about...

Since Day 1 of Faction Warfare 3 years ago, I've been dropping with friends and members of my unit and I've had a blast each time.

I have never pugged. Never. I never will. Ever. You know why? Because I don't want to pug. I want to drop with my unit. That's why I joined them. Am I any less of a player or a man because of it?

I can only repeat myself so many times before I finally get tired of trying to tell people how to be successful at this...

the last match we saw you guys I took a different approach
I asked if the team do you want to try something new
when they said yes we gathered at one drop zone and waited

we did ok on the first drop then another player suggested we move
to the area where you would have to come through a chokepoint
we you must have spotted us because you came through the chokepoint
and slaughtered us
it was down hill after that
