Well its been years and we have endured it.

PGI crazy or good moves, the game turning to be an almost dinosaur some may say, the really bad matches that made you wished never had know MWO, and in essence, the same old same old.

In my case, I just like the BT universe. That means if by some kind of miracle some other company makes a better version of Mechwarrior... I'm gone !...or it happens...by a disruption in time and space new great people get hired by PGI to change the game entirely without precedent...and then everyone would be pleased. (ok, ok, yeah, almost everyone around here, because still some people just can't be pleased)

It's late I don't wanna hit the sack and I have nothing better to do at this time. So I made this topic for people who have played this game for at least a couple of years and care to share their opinion.

So, this game is part of my life, almost daily sometimes despite my still disliking of the so called skill tree. I like when its days when I don't immerse myself with it for a change, but find it somehow strange not to play at least a match every week.

Sometimes I visualize what a new version of a more futuristic and impeccable version of a MechWarrior simulator would be...Better graphics, design, atmosphere, sounds, music, UI, everything. You would really feel in the year 3050 and beyond. You would almost feel the adjusted environment, of your personal life support system unit of your particular battlemech...

For now this is what we got, and this community is sufficiently good. The game has its highs and lows, but we keep playing it. Guess we are junkies to the rush of it. Though maps are really bad and have mostly been so.

Thoughts?

On the depressive side, it might mean that after all this time, I have nothing better to do, and I should be ashamed to have wasted so much time, patience and effort on this.

Well, to hell with that, this is just a game we all play for fun, not more or less than that. As long as we might still get that somehow, we will remain here. Or until we find something better ahead...

But yes, I might be playing a better version of MW in an alter dimension.

Darn with my low energy this morning, I'm just gonna suck when the event starts today...

Who cares... this is just a...

I'm still here because I still have fun.

The mech combat is still really fun and a few good, close matches will keep me playing through the frustrating times because the good matches are worth it.

Mech customization is of course a large part of this game and something I enjoy.

I find the forums here to be pretty entertaining and informative whether it's discussing tech balance, game modes, play styles, mech builds, Battletech lore, table-top, etc... I learn a lot by coming here. Plus there's a lot of humor to be found here as well as in-game.

I'm sure I'm forgetting other things too, but that's what I can think of for now.

Shooty Stompy Robots is neat

Though, it's come to a point where, I'm not sure I enjoy PUGing it anymore
Comp play, I enjoy. NBT, MRBC and the like...but so many BAD additions to the PUG LIFE (such as reducing the viable pool of weapons and Mechs, and outright terrible game modes being Incursion and Escort)

Why still here?

- Mech porn. Without Alex and co. this game would have died a long time ago.

- Nostalgia. Without the goodwill that this IP recalls in many of us, this game would have died a long time ago.

- The community (I don't care about the TKers, or the occasional jer; MWO has a great community). Without a rabidly dedicated and incredibly supportive community this game would have died a long time ago.

This is what keeps me playing and paying.

Oh and...
- A dickensian-like hope that PGI, and specifically Russ will someday awaken and realize that it is not they/he that have kept this IP and this game alive, but rather it is all of us who support and play "their game" and are willing to put up with their never ending BS that keep it alive. And that in their awakening they will turn to us and instead of saying "you should be thanking me for making this game", it is rather they that should be thanking us for playing it and spending on it.
And mechageezus bless us. Everyone.

3 out of 4 aint bad.

I like the gameplay a lot. And the stompy robbits grown on me more that I thought they could (MWO is my first contact with BT, but surely not the last).

Though lately I barely play the game. I'm taking a break, only jumping in to get some event rewards if I have enough spare time and the rewards are good enough. Not bacause I'm bored, but because the balance declined beyond the point I find tolerable. Sooner (hopefully) or later they will have to reign in the overly generous heat capacity/dissipation numbers that make the laser vomit (clan in particular) so good it invalidates most alternative options. As McGraal said, the current pool of viable mechs and weapons is damn narrow, and I don't like vomit builds, so f**** me, right?

In short, the game is now mostly "go vomit or go home", so I decided to go home for the time being.

A shame, I really wanted that that loyality urbie, but currently I just can't find a reason to dish out any cash on the game I don't actually play, so probably I won't get one.

My secret is that I don't expect too much.
Quickplay, a few Maps, Mechs and the complex possibilities of the MechLab are enough for me to have fun.
Tinker with builds, try them in the field, test my skills against others, playing casually. That's enough.

I don't need to get to #1 somewhere, I don't need to prove myself in a virtual social group, I don't need the game to cover the whole BT universe with complex economy or whatnot.
(And believe me: you don't want that, either. I've played Eve-Online for some years back when I studied. It becomes a job. A real job but without income. With hours of grinding, liabilities, even corp meetings, contracts and fees. It's not a game. It's a tiny virtual life. You do not want that in a game. It's not fun.)

They could do some more intelligent modes where you have actual reason to travel to and fight at different places on a map. E.g. the new Terra Therma is beautiful, but I have NEVER been to the outer segments. Only always the same 3-4 where the same fight happens.
They could add some more proper content and interconnected missions.
They could add a replay function.
But all of that is not vital to have fun.

Don't expect too much. It's a nice game.

B-tech nerd since the sixth grade. MWO & PGI can be very frustrating at times but it is the only B-tech game around and does have its moments of glorious mech combat.

Because i found the answer.
Without the answer i would have quitted years ago.
The answer has made the game playable again.
I do have lots of fun with the answer.

Why am I here after all those years (alt account from closed beta)?
Because Mechwarrior and Battletech are love and life. MWO has its ups and downs at times but it always feels like coming home and is for the most part fun.

Reason?
I have taken an oath: "I will keep lurking this forum until the servers go down"

Sometime usually when there is nothing else to do - I will drop one or two rounds a month for some basic "mechporn" although its not a good one anymore, more a kind of vintage mechporn

Nostalgia, Alex's artwork, and as unsophisticated and often times hamfisted the development is, the gameplay is still pretty tight. My mech hanger is full and my wallet stubborn, so I'm just doing to play at my own pace for as long as this game lasts.

I like the game and I play enough to keep enjoying it but not enough to get burnt out on it. MechWarrior games have always been one of my favorite types of PC games and MWO is a MechWarrior game.
