I'm fairly new to the game and I could use some help. I'm looking to get into faction play. I already have a decent selection of Clan heavies, but nothing else. Since it's difficult to build a drop deck of just heavy mechs, I'm looking to branch out into mediums and/or lights.

So my question is, which Clan mediums and lights are best in faction play?

I usually tend towards laser vomit builds, but I have several SRM and ER PPC builds as well. That said, I'd be willing to try other builds. Also, I'll be paying in C-Bills so no heroes or champions for me.

Thanks.

HBK IIC (50T) - Stormcrow (55T) - Huntsman (50T) - Ice Ferret (45T) - Shadowcat (45T)
Those fit your bill for laser vom - the HBKIIC being the standout for pure vom option + high mounts.

Cougar (35T) - Adder (35T) - Kitfox (30T)
Those are the laser vom lights, the Cougar being the standout. Keep in mind that laser vom lights pretty much require a skilled pilot to use properly. You're better off with a MG boat with hvysmalls.

The Storm Crow can be built to almost anything but boat ballistics. This Omnimech has a great selection of pods. I like one UAC-10, 2-3 ERMLs,and 2 SRM-4s. The Lasers and SRMs are used to pad damage or during UAC jam or cool down.

I could definitely see Laser Vomit on this platform.

Despite being a month necroed, I'd like to toss my $0.02 in.

HBK-IIC (any dual ballistic version) with 2x LBX20's, frontload torso armor, 1 point of armor for each arm, 250XL engine, and 4t ammo. Does quite well in Scouting mode, despite the limited number of shots. The last several matches I played, it got 2-4 KMDD.

Scouting is basically 4v4 lights/mediums running to the Escort capture points, but those points don't provide ECM/targeting, and each one captured adds 1 to the intel gathered meter. Win by either killing all the enemy mechs, or by gathering the intel and getting at least 1 mech in the designated pickup location when the dropship arrives.

Sounds interesting. If FP is still up tommarrow I will try my hand at Scouting.

The Huntsman is probably the best medium for FP. It is 50 tons so you know you will always be able to use it in scout mode.
But a lot of this depends on the heavies you already have as well. You want your drop deck to meet the max tonnage. Currently that is 240. This means for example: if you have 3 Hellbringers you most likely will want a Shadowcat to put you right at 240.

But you could also have a mix of different weights. I would start with getting three heavy mechs ready, then figure out how much tonnage you have left. Get a light or medium that lets you hit 240. Clan mediums are all very good, so you really can't go wrong no matter what you choose.

I plan on adding the Pahket( Huntsman Hero Omnimech) the Lacerator( Storm Crow Hero Omnimech), the Cobra Cat( Nova Cat Hero Omnimech) to my Drop Deck. I already have the Supernova Broiler and Kit Fox Purifier.

With the Supernova Broiler and the Kit Fox Purifier you are at 120 tons, so you still have 120 tons to work with.
The 65 ton heavies (especially the Hellbringer IMO) are what many people base their drop decks around. If you go that rout then you will definitely want the stormcrow, but I woulds still pick up one of the 50 tonners for scouting if you don't have one already.

Or you can go with a 70 ton and a 50 ton or a 75 ton or a 45 ton to get you rolling.

In the end It is best to be at the tonnage maximum. I usually run three hellbringers and a shadowcat.
However I also run two hellbringers and two stormcrows a lot
As you get more and more mechs you will mix and match and try new things. Also if you get with a group, they may want you to bring in specific configs.

At least that is what I do when planning as a clanner, I also have IS drop decks as well.

I am thinking Broiler,Purifier,Cobra Cat,and Pahket. Total is 240/240. One Virago, one Redline, one Lacerator, one C-Bill model Storm Crow might work as well.
