USAF for 24 years, last duty station was Travis AFB, CA. Once upon a time, I served as a flight line heavy aircraft maintainer.
With regard to the second question, the drop off in folks on these forums has been pretty steep over the last six months or so, so I think the idea of a Veterans group might be a bit past its prime.

Two and a half years. Deployed to Iraq for 5 months (cut short as my home was destroyed by the hurricanes of early 2000s. If you don't have a home to go back to, they send you back to the States to get your life back together with an under honorable discharge and an invitation to come back once it is.) The army national guard 116th field artillery regiment alpha company as MOS 13 Mike. It's one of the reasons I really like realizing that LRM, BT hex size, and the Catapult all have their origins closely related to the MLRS of the 1980s, which we had a dozen of over at bravo company. Trained at Fort Jackson for basic and Fort Sill for AIT.
When people tell you that Fort Sill is hard, ask them if they went there in the summer. If they did then call them out on their ********. 10 minute punishments followed by 50 minutes rest due to the heat is a joke compared to Jackson where they can have you punished for up to 50 mins and rest for ten due to the cold.
