Sad after whaling on it. The Thanatos was one of my favorite mechs from the MW4 expansions. This is what happens when you link artwork with hitboxes and weapons location.

I think you all are being a bit too harsh on the TNS. Yes, it could definitely use some side torso armor buffs. That does not make it a bad mech. There are 2 or 3 of them that are pretty good. The TNS is a hill humper, poke and shoot mech. If you were looking for a brawler, then the marauder is best for that. The TNS does not do well in a brawl as its ECM is useless and the STs are huge. I also don't recommend gauss due to the stupidly heavy weight of the weapon. (and its unfortunate tendency to go boom) If however, you use heavy ppc, ultra ac 10 or ac 20, large pulse and er mediums, then the TNS will shine. The TNS also brings some new utility to the field with being adequately able to use streaks. Get some target decay and poke-streak-slip away.

PGI has done some pretty pathetic mechs recently.
So I guess wallet closed after this pack again.

A good pilot can make any mech work. The concern is the level of work for the level of payoff, and the Thanatos definitely doesn't have a good ratio of work to performance.

You need to hill poke and pop tart. The only build that I've had much luck with is the 4S with 2 HPPC and backup SRM6s

This is the first (any maybe only) true sneaky Gauss Sniper in the game.
It has sufficient range.
It has ECM to be sneaky.
It has JJs to get into good positions.

Tank with the right side. But normally you shouldn't get shot at too much in the first place.

Modify depending on taste (e.g. switch JJs and some ammo for 2 SRMs or whatever)

Tech-wise, this is pretty much a Clan Mech.
And please don't whine about the Light Gauss. It has comparable DPS and damage-per-ammo-ton to the normal Gauss, but more range, no charge-up and less weight. If Clans had one, I would switch the normal Gauss' for them every day.

Clanner thinks light gauss has no charge-up and less weight, how cute.

Since never. Its charge-up is faster than normal Gauss, but it's totally still there (0.5s vs. 0.75s).

Light Gauss is 12 tons and 5 slots as opposed to 15 tons and 7 slots on an IS regular gauss. For which it goes from 15 damage to 8.

Clan Gauss, by the way, is 12 tons and 6 slots. So is Light Gauss is almost exactly 1/2 the damage of Clan gauss but is.... the same tonnage and just 1 slot less.

Light gauss is ****.

The reason the tanny has disappeared is because most have its ECM skilled now. ;)

Only out for a couple days and already largely disappeared from the battlefield.

With other mechs, you saw them in significant numbers for a week or so after their release.

Thanatos? Not so much.

Because it sucks.

wow I had three on my side in one game last night and probably saw at least one every second game.

They made it bigger than the Awesome. No reason from a scaling point of view since the Thanatos has bigger, deeper side torsos than the Awesome. It's some kind of scale ratio nerf that worked too well. I think it's too late now to fix it. They should though, just shrink it down to the correct scale. Very easy.

Well Light Gauss is supposed to have much longer range, I guess range should be bumped since we are not playing on a hex-map like in PnP.
