I just can't do it anymore!
I try and I try. I luv this game. But the crappy map and mode selection is just ruining the game experience for me.
Since we can only play the game the way YOU want us to, not the way we find most enjoyable. I have found myself looking for a new game to play. Getting aggravated by a game you enjoy playing isn't working for me. Having to pick a mech, and hope it will fit the map and mode you are forced to play is stupid.
I am not sure which mode i hate more. Escort and Conquest.
Conquest is just capture the flag, and capture the flag is so EVERYGAME. Normally I wouldn't even play that type of game. Then to be told the only way you can play our game is to do what WE say.
Escort is almost as stupid as picking your mech before you know where you are going. Why would you drop a mech on a foreign ground just to test drive it. Where valuable mech pilots lives are just forfeit. If you capable of interstellar travel, I think you can create any conditions in a lab.
Then to top it off, you are given a choice of either playing Conquest or Escort. I can't do it.
Just so you know, I wouldn't say anything bad about you game other wise. I love this game, when I'm not forced to play it in ways i don't find enjoyable.
I don't know what else to say. I know this post will just go away and no change will come of it. But i just had to put it out there and hope for the best.
Good Luck!

Wow...well every one got his own "worst issues of the game" toplist I guess....and the map and mode vote system in QP counts only one of the minor annoyances in game to me.....but..... yea.

For me it is the boating and the Mechlab that shouldn't be in here....those things that break the game....overoptimisation....mimaxing thaking away the charm and characteristics of the single mechs.

The clear no to less mechlab and more game is what made me loose my interest in this game some time ago....
Sure I still visit the forums every day and drop for two or three matches one or two times a week but that is it.

Seeing all those squirrels run around with a hundred kph over rubble and through water without loosing their leggs just makes me sick and seeing the Kings oft the battlefields beeing reduced to mostly fata..ed targets where just going within range of an assault should be a near sure deathsentence for a light mech....but well.

It boils down to MWO beeing the only Battletech game on the market atm....

I wonder what builds you run to be so dependent on map and mode? Sure, a brawler has a harder time on Polar or Alpine while hot builds are less efficient on hotter maps. But this should not be that much of a factor, each mech is able to perform well under most conditions. It's the same with game modes, those should not influence the performance of your mech much.
Do you have an example build which is unplayable in specific maps/modes?

What you want is by far not as easy as it may sound. Given the game's population how long do you want to wait for a match if everyone could choose their preferred gamemode? Then add the time a player with 200+ mechs needs to choose his mech. What if everyone chooses assaults or lights, do you want such a match, especially if you are the only one in a medium? Or do you want to wait another few minutes for the MM to create multiple matches for the given map/mode combination until every mech in the queue is in a balanced team?

What if someone loves escort but have to wait an eternity to get a match because it's not a very popular mode? In the current system he can at least accumulate votes to get a match regularly.

Also it's quite boring to always bring the best mech for each map and to always fight under perfect conditions. Do you really want to play Polar with 8+ Lurm boats on each side? That's what probably will happen. For me it's more interesting to make the best out of mech, map and mode combination.

So, in a nutshell, you think a light should basically not have any right to exist unless it's a laughable easy target for assault fatties?

In this itteration of Battletech ?
No, non at all...maybe in scouting.
There is simply no task for a light mech here that wouldn't be performed better by a heavier, more expensive but more capable, more rare but more rewarding mech.
The role for light mechs is scouting/ info gathering, spotting for artillerie and maybe raiding areas that aren't defended by other mechs at least not by heavys or asaults. Maybe infanterie duty or anty armored infanterie duty or as tank and scout hunter....maybe as police craft.

But no I do not think a light mech should have any realistic chance of winning a fight against an fresh assault mech with a pilot that is neither completely new nor stone drunk.

The Assaults in MWO are shown as uselessly slow, cumbersome pieces of junk that often have the firepower of mediums or heavys while beeing easier to kill. That notion is just hillarious.

Yep, on TT a good hit on a light and its gone. Now a Locust can take a couple of ac20... In TT game, we got rid of a full lance of light with a Battlemaster and a Banshee in one salvo... Light are there to flank, destroy supply, scout and help to get target for indirect fire most of the time. Yeah you can fight, its feasible to take down an Atlas with 3 locust, losing two of them but piercing the back for crits killing. BUt one vs one, an odd shot from a rookie may just cut the locust in half...

Now a light can have a good chance to kill an assault. We need that heat slow down mech... light would become sitting duck when full red.

As much as we would like MWO to be the full Mechwarrior immersive simulation, it isn't. And while we played Light Mechs in TT in their logical and canonical way, a game in the likes of MWO and the Mechwarrior series (graciously covering the X-Box arcade abomination with a cloak of silence) is a way different beast. This are short encounters of direct with a bare minimum of strategy and ever so often disappointing tactics. And although some of the game modes support the characteristics a Light Mech has in play, it's not very rewarding in the end. It's about kills and damage. If Lights don't have at least some teeth to bite with, pretty much no one would play them anymore. And I am not so sure that a lonely Light can bring down an assault. Not that there are very accomplished pliots that would manage that, when a lonely assault pilot doesn't do his his job or is highly inept. Not that I am completely immune to your argument though. A wolfpack is something else and 3-4 coordinated light can actually shred an assault to pieces, especcially the less agile kind. And there is the upper end of the Light Mech scale (and yes, I am looking to you, Arctic Cheetah) where they reach medium level of tankyness. But since the line gets blurred there anyway, you can as well take Assasin which are basically very heavy Light Mechs and deadly effective. In MWO there is no time for patience and no place for delicacy. Scouting, sneaking, tagging etc. you don't get anything out of it in PUG play (which I am suspecting being the most occurance of encounters). So I like the Lights being a little bit more annoying than assault pilots like them to be. Lights are not here to be easy targets. And I really don't mind punishing a lazy *** LRM Kodiak staying behind and not sharing his armor with his team. Nevertheless I am really looking forward to the finished Battletech by HBS. As a turned base system it's much easier to play those Lights in their traditional role. But until then I like take the challenge to face a Heavy or an Assault in a 20t insect. Don't forget, Locusts are a biblical plague Posted Image

Unreal!
I caved in and logged in. Launch into a quick game. My two options are Escort or conquest. I play the match and log out angry.
I have a "beer" and calm down. I log back into the game. Once more my first quick play options are Escort or Conquest. I play the matches and smh. I say F' it. and switch mechs to my short range brawler and bam! I am forced to play Polar Highlands. The three things i HATE about this game, and I am forced to play them back to back to back, if I want to play your game. WTH! FIX THIS CRAP. And the kicker. Polar highlands, The enemy team had three lrm boats. and our team had none.
Admit your match making system SUCKS, and Change it PLEASE!!!!!!

But hey, I get it. Seems because I don't agree with you AND your opinion seems to be the absolute reference on the matter, I lost my right to make any points in this argument, because they don't play into your wheelhouse. Not that I tried to see your side of the argument and making even a point for it. It's a good way to be right, it's right just because you say so.

With the game population what it is the only thing I can think of is maybe they should add a 3rd game mode option but you you still might get voted in to the other ones. As to the map problem I could envision a system where you pick your mech than after the map is selected it gives you say 2 minutes to change the load out. That way it would break the current mm more than it already is messed up.

I was thinking 4 special mech bays. One for each type (Lgt, med, etc) and you would be able to switch the mech you are in, with the same size mech in your special bays.

Or

You add a game lobby, so that the players can actually communicate more easily then through the friends list or only communicating In battles. Then host rooms for each map and or type and let the players choose, when and where they launch.

For a quick fix, i would set the Match maker to not list Escort and Conquest at the same time. Then go from there.

And I am not apposed to playing these maps or modes from time to time. But when i get off work and log in for a relaxing night of gaming. And I am limited for time so i play, lets say 5 battles a night, and 4 of them are ones I don't want to play; I feel like rage quitting. But I don't leave the game cause its not my team mates fault the developers missed the mark on battle selection method. Its hard to relax (even with "Beer") when you are not enjoying the game you are playing. Back to back to back is just not right.
