Escort is by far not a favourite game mode among the playerbase.. I suggest you spruce it up by allowing the Atlas to actually FIRE it's stock weapons (ac20, lrm20, srm6, 2ml) randomly at nearby targets.. players can even hold locks for the VIP. Maybe the VIP can hold off firing lrms until it's spotted by the enemy so as not to give away its' position.

Judging from academy, I think you have the basic AI needed.. I think this would go a long, looooooooooooooooong way to improving the game mode.

What do ya guys say? Any other suggestions fellow mechwarriors?

Replace Atlas with a Behemoth or Demolisher tank.

The Behemoth armor variant tank, actually, has superior armor to any 100 ton mech, ever, twin AC/10s and 4 LRM-5s. The AC/10s are on the turret, the LRMs are on the front end and in tabletop I have used a single tank to destroy 8 out of 9 mechs, obliterating 450 tons of enemy combatants (7 enforcers including 3 non-canon official tournament cheese builds) and a custom made 4 ballistic Atlas.... in the span of 30 seconds.

Given MWO's double armor, lack of through armor crits, and lack of breaking legs resulting in mechs being disabled... I'd say players have a fair chance against it and an escort.
Also the tank is slow, tough, and terrifying. Well maybe not against the monstrous sizes of MWO's highly oversized assault mechs... but pretty terrifying all the same as a 13 meter long tank.

Since the Behemoth goes the same speed as an Atlas and does not have heat issues, one could factor in destroying its tracks as a way of slowing it down.

As it happens, that's what happened before I obliterated all those mechs. I got tracked. Spent another three fixing the track. Might reduce that time to something gamey like 30 seconds. That helps to beat the problem of 'oh god they legged the VIP"

im actually a fan of escort, because it dictates maps being played differently. sniper pewpew in crimson won't work for example.

Yeah size problem is a pain...It's all below 18m for battlemech. The size of a medium mech is like a mbt tank standing on his rear. Look like they have done it again in mw5.

I'm not saying to get rid of the game mode, just make it better for more people. You don't see any room for improvement?

MWO does keep it below 18 meters.
The issue is as admitted in the 1st somerset strikers companion guide in "From the developers", most fictional narrators from the books are 'unreliable' in that their narration works from their opinions, their knowledge (or lack thereof) and their emotions. (As an example, this is not from the guide) tA terrified pilot narrating an encounter against an Atlas, for example, once described the Atlas when it appears seemingly from nowhere as over 25 meters... later when he is feeling more confident as if it could be defeated, he then describes it as 15 meters. However, the average description of an Atlas's height by actual pilots of Atlases seem to range between 13 and 14.2 meters. Meanwhile the tallest mech in Battletech (until 3065 because at that point I stop giving a ****) is 14.4 meters (the Executioner). The Victor in Heir to the Dragon is described as 14 meters tall.

I know the sizes can be a bit wild, but there is actually a pattern to be found here...
The tallest and/or FATTEST mechs have both endo steel and ferro fibrous.
The shortest mechs do not have a pelvis.

Those that lack endo steel... also happen to be small for their weight.

Mechs that lack both, comparably, are typically smaller and skinnier than these comparisons that do have them.

So there is method to the madness of Battletech scale.

Also in the 1980s scales of old...

If you see a pilot inside a Rifleman though... you might agree it needs a size increase because oh god is that thing cramped...

Edit compared to MWO's original Shadowhawk scale.

Keep in mind, this SHK in the middle is "slightly taller" than the art of the 2D (remember the 2D SHK has the armor of a Locust...which makes sense given its actual 'size'... and the 3 and 5 SHKs are described as being considerably bigger and more imposing... they also fit bulkier equipment like XL engines, DHS, endo and ferro... Familiar pattern?)

Have you seen the car and truck in MWO ? I'm bigger in the cockpit than the Helm of the Tanker in Crimson... Yeah the mech size in comparison of the pilot in the cockpit is okay, the mech size in comparison of the environment is not...

Tallest thing in MWO is 17.6 meters.

Environment isn't necessarily to scale, though you'd be surprised in some cases.

Actually i have never understood why they have chosen a Mech (i guess it was cheaper because the asset already existed). It feels totally unbelievable that the VIP Atlas should have more Armor than a dozen or so regular ones combined. Also i would expect a tank to be more suited for transportation of people or freight.
