I saw a big youtuber using a custom sound pack for MWO just to give more depth to the sound effects and it honestly makes me want to play more. However, reading the guidelines under rules it talks about ban's for people changing sounds for tactical advantage. I have searched the forum's to the best of my ability and see no guidance on this. I see one of 3 answers.
1. Its forbidden and if you get caught your Banned or suspended.
2. Its allowed as long as its not giving a tactical advantage.
3. Its not authorized however if its not giving any tactical advantage then they are not looking for it and your for the time being ok to use it but may get a suspension and probably not a ban, because of it.
I am leaning towards 3 as where PGI is at. Which makes me very wary of doing it. Thoughts on this? Not what you think it should be, but what it is.

Historically, PGI has looked the other way for sound mods. They know they exist, they don't condone them, but they have never done anything to discourage them.

Can a spectator hear a "spectatee's" sound mod?

Sound mods that give an advantage might be things like, say, [Redacted] (just pulling an example out of my hindquarters, no idea how feasible that is or isn't).
But, yeah, PGI is aware that people use sound mods, there's a fistful out there, several streamers use them, and PGI turns a blind eye to them because they don't harm anything. (Sound paks are so common amongst streamers that some viewers don't even recognize the default sounds to the game on my stream, I don't use a sound pak.)

I asked about creating a specific sound mod and my thread was locked.
You are not allowed to discuss modifying the client on the forums.
I was unaware of this, but hey the mod was nice enough to explain exactly why which I appreciate.

Thats still good info. I am not asking to do it, or how. I am specifically asking if its allowed and what the official stance was. Which your info has me wary of doing it.

Do your own search for it. I would rather this thread not be closed for what they have clearly said no to. There is plenty of ways to find it.

Soundpacks are modifying the client, which is against the rules.closed
