The only p2w aspect of mwo is the purchase of a working headset.
Consumables are equal, always have been. Nowadays we don't even have to unlock skills anymore to improve c-bills consumables.
The only aspects i could see which can be remotely considered as p2w are "unnerfed" new mechs and dropdecks for pf (the ability to swiftly swap whole decks to min/max on certain maps/gamemodes).
Then again, you can quite literally beat a 30$ hero mech with a stupid 1,4 mil c-bills locust.

These people are obviously lying. Seriously....Don't play this game. Don't waste your time and money. PGI doesn't deserve it.

As salty as I am about the Clan nerfs, that's not anywhere near what I would suggest to a new player.

I'm not a particularly good player but I've been able to beat Deathstrikes and Ultraviolets in standard Inner Sphere mediums mechs, including ones that are considered obsolete like the Hunchback. The money can help you build your skill as a player better but the closest it comes to winning you any matches is through buying the consumables. Even then you only can use a few per match, they're generally easily countered, and you can buy them for a not terribly excessive amount of regular in-game currency.\

Edit: As pointed out by somebody else a headset makes a huge difference. When pugging I can only make out maybe half of the total players speaking when I just plain speakers, and even then it ca be hard to hear it all clearly through the sound of LRMs hitting your cockpit and PPCs being fired off. I remember one match the other day where only at the very end of the match could I make out a guy complaining that he communicated the entire match when in fact I never heard a word he said prior. I assumed that he had a faulty microphone because I heard nothing even over just plain footsteps. Even just dollar store earbuds make a difference.

Biggest enemy of a Deathstrike is any fast-moving IS light/medium with armor. (Hunch is also a heavy hitter, so very hard to ignore if you want to survive)

Heard horror stories about MWO being not just P2W but daylight robbery, that actually turned me off from getting into this game earlier. No idea how it was in the past, but right now I can say that this game seems like one of the best examples of fair F2P models out there. Yeah, cosmetics price is a bit bitey, but that not something you can't live without.

By the way, folks, how often cosmetics (more importantly color) sales happening? Got my wallet ready for it, need many in a bulk, and buying all with full price gonna make me poor fast. Posted Image

Not as often as when PGI was trying to get rid of its publisher, the creator of the 500 dollar gold mech. Having bought its freedom, sale prices on its merchandise seems to be more seasonal. Expect something February related to Valentine's Day.

Hunchbacks obsolete?

o.O;
Hm.
Huh.
Oh?
You don't say?

I think it's pretty relevant. You might not see as many, because lets be honest many of us have had them for FIVE YEARS... and constantly using them gets old.
But that doesn't make them obsolete.
They're just not "New".

Keep in mind Domonkey is sporting a 1% tag, meaning he's earned over 1 billion cbills on top of anything he has spent... which can easily be hundreds of millions of cbills. If it wasn't worth playing, he wouldn't have the tag.

Obvious troll is obvious.

You don't need to spread the Gospel of the Hunch to me. I love the chassis, its my favourite in MWO. That said, in terms of anything "meta" its completely outdated. The 4H in particular has been paying more than its dues lately with the UAC10. That increase in rate of fire makes huge difference. MRMs and the light engine also give the 4SP a lot more viability that was never really there previously because you'd have to trade off firepower for speed.
