About time one of the news outlets picked up the MW5 bit.
I've always wondered about that...how the game receives nearly no press at all. By now...young ones, won't even know about MW{2..4} nor the MechCommander series.
Dunno, maybe the genre is so niche now, that they are conserving $$$ in hope word of mouth will travel far and wide enough to justify the development costs and maintenance.
I dunno. You get out, what you put in...
Mw5 Coverage.

I did check that out. Cool little article.
I'm thinking that the hype train might not really fire up until the game is closer to launch. Even HBS's BattleTech seemed to be a bit bare at first and ramped up when the game got closer to launch (I'm seeing ads for it now on Rock Paper Shotgun's home page now).
It might help a bit that BattleTech is being published now by Paradox though. Still, I'm thinking that we will see more and more coverage as the game gets closer to release.

IGN seems to be their go to for advertising. I noticed in the comments of various videos that people don't know what MechWarrior is anymore. People keep saying it's a Titanfall clone. Which is disgusting because that comes off as an FPS with a mech skin to me. At least MWO doesn't feel like your run of the mill FPS.

Yeah, it is a bummer. That's what happens when the IP has been dormant for so long. A lot of gamers have grown up without BattleTech IP's being in the AAA spotlight.
With PGI rejuvenating the franchise again (through MWO), that has been great (as we can now see the franchise growing again), still MWO is not AAA level exposure and that means many gamers still do not know of the franchise.
Hopefully MW5:Mercs will help bring the franchise closer to the old spotlight it hasn't enjoyed since 2004. BattleTech will help as well too (although that is targeting a more niche demographic), but the MechWarrior titles are probably the ones that will make the biggest strides as they are closer to what is popular right now.
It's probably a long road, however as long as new players are willing to try these games out and they enjoy them, the franchise might just get there again.

Well from the videos Paradox put up. I saw a lot of interest in it from people who didn't seem to know the franchise. HBS had the right idea seeking out Paradox for their publisher. Though people were trying to equate it as Stellaris with Mechs. Which would be freaking awesome, but not the case.

Polygon had their "Year of Battletech" feature they did late laat year that covered MW5 and HBS Battletech

Also consider the "stuff" going on with Harmony Gold. Hairbrained Schemes was dismissed from a Harmony Gold lawsuit. See here.
So they may have had to hold up on a MAJOR advert push until they were sure they could launch without major recoding or delays to release due to getting mired in a ongoing lawsuit.
