Yea, I took a chance on this mech, another one of my favorites from MW 4. Boy was that a mistake. It's almost as bad as my favorite MW4 mech, the Uziel. Almost.

Do you like the size/style of the KC but the loadout of the Annihilator-2a? Then the Fafnir is probably right for you.
I like mine for sure. Even the ballistics in the arm are in line with the cockpit. Sure they are wider than all hell, but not nearly as low as the Anni's arm mounts.

The FNR-5 is pretty beastly with 4xLB-10X and MLs/ERMLs, but the 5B and 6U I can't find a decent build for. UAC20s are too hot, LB-20X's take too long to cycle, HGRs might be viable in FP but the charge-up duration makes them pretty useless against solo-QP alpha-pokers as they've damaged you and gotten back under cover before your HGRs can charge to fire at them, and forget defending against lights/mediums the PUGgers almost always allow to have their way with Charlie lance.
I am seriously considering selling my 5B and 6U Fafnirs along with the joke Uziel gift 'mech/pinata and buying something for c-bills that's actually far more viable in solo-QP.
Like a Dire Whale or Fatlas.
Bottom line: I'd buy the FNR-5 for c-bills when it gets released for general purchase but I'd stay away from the 5B and 6U, unless you're a HGR fan, then the 5B might be a viable choice along with the FNR-5 4xLB-10X "Shafnir".

I don't know what it is, but if feels more mobile to me and the fact that you dont' have to deal with lower actuators is the jam.
I like that you almost never have to worry about terrain, but you do have to worry about you width, and there are convergence issues. But so far...I'm like it.
Only thing is, theres a chassis out there that can do a lot of its builds better.
Dual hguass, Anni;
MRM40, hgauss, mpulse/meds: Atlas-K, Banshee-3S
Quad uac5: Slipnir
I'd say its a nice alternative at best.
One thing I will say, the ECM works wonders dude do not underestimate it.
I keep the ECM on all my capable ones and I've very much noticed people will prefer a target able object rather than me.
I'm not typically a 100ton pilot, in fact I'm pretty awful, but this one feels good to me...the 48kph bothers me a ton though...going back to the not a 100tonner dude.
My favorite is the Wrath. I'm trying to figure out how to git gud at assaults...I find it quite difficult no matter how much I watch streams, I always get myself into bad positions. Its not terrible though, I will say that much. I'd def say something if it was dog poop, it is not.

The Fafnir can't Stealth Gauss? Are you sure?

Difficulty: Hard, as hard as the Altas to pilot, in that you're piloting the most fragile assault (not 100 tonner, but assault) in game.
Adaptiveness: Good, you can build this mech to fight close range, mid range, or long range. This is an improvement on the Atlas
Role: Fire support. You can't be at the front lines, ever, due to slow twist and hitboxes
Verdict: Better than the Atlas (due to being effective at multiple ranges)
Advice: Fear everything. If the enemy knows where you are, relocate. Always put teammates between you and the enemy, poke when they poke. Pug armor your way to success.

Ah, my bad, I assumed you'd want more than a warhammer's weaponry on a 100 tonner lol

*shrug* It's a trade off between utility and weapons. The complete inability to be locked by enemies has allowed me, on more than a couple of occasions, to casually fire gauss shots into the enemy team without any kind of return fire.
I have stood in front of an enemy assault with both side torsos open, but he kept focusing my armored CT because he couldn't see the paper doll of my mech. The time he wasted on my CT armor was time I took to kill him.

It works for me and it might work for others, so I posted it.

CASE works for all internal explosions. It's just absolutely not worth taking for Gauss Rifles.
Honestly though, that is not a build I'd call great. Point defense lasers on a Stealth GR boat? Why not ERMLs so you can actually use them with the GRs at range? Honestly, that thing is less attractive than the Stealth GR Thanny. And that mech is a butterface.

Well, for starters, I don't know if I really should reply to you because in this topic as well as others, you have been very vocal about the Fafnir being bad and speaking out against any who happened to like the mech. I'm not sure if you'd agree or even consider anything I say. I'll make this one attempt here.
CASE really is personal preference here. If you want it, go for it, if not, don't. Ammo has a chance of exploding when it's destroyed. Gauss is a guaranteed explosion. I find that it's worth it, others don't.
ERSL and MPL have similar ranges and cooldown+duration timing. The intent is to have something that fires fast once the inevitable brawl breaks out. Or, of course, something to use when you've run out of Gauss ammo.
Finally, the whole point of Gauss+Stealth is to use the Stealth to get to your vantage points undetected and start unloading Gauss upon the enemy team. With Stealth, you can even pick points that would be too close for ECM to obscure locks. People look for big red boxes around their enemy targets and for most of the round, that won't be around you. Using ERML with the Gauss would heat you up while Stealth is running and reveal your location with a bright laser beam.

You can say that about literally every mech.
You can say ‘not even remotely’ about any mech as well.
The Fafnir is probably not the best mech for leading the charge, but it’s great for amplifying your team’s damage. The Sleipnir does dual HGR better due to better mobility. The Faf is a decent dual LBX20 carrier. I’m running a very derpy build in the -6U, four lpls and four hmgs and it’s pretty effective as long as I stay close to the team. I have more time in Nightstars but I think the Faf will be a bit better due to better weapon convergence.
Like any assault-class mech, it is easy meat if caught alone.
Good hunting,

I'm not speaking out against anyone, I'm arguing my points.

Gauss ammo absolutely never explodes, and isGRs, last I checked, are not guaranteed to explode. Even when they do, the damage an exploding GR does is fairly minimal, especially to a 100 ton mech.

That's what we called a bracket build, and they're widely derided for a reason. You want to be able to fire as many weapons as possible from your desired range, and the GRs, which are your primary weapon, determine what that range is. ERMLs would both boost your midrange GR volleys, and function as should range brawl weapons in a pinch.
ERSLs and MPLs sync well with each other, but very poorly with the GR. ERMLs are better.

People are going to see the Fafnir. There's no avoiding it, Stealth armor or otherwise. If you're running Stealth armor on the Fafnir, it should not be to maintain perpetual stealth, but to delay retaliation.
