As he climbed into the cockpit of his heavily modified Uziel, he just had to marvel at the beauty of the beast. It was jet black in order to use the frigid barrier of night's darkness as an ally. It had two weapons; a particle projection cannon on each arm made it both imposing and lethal. The options for extra firepower were traded out for extra heat sinks, speed, and jump jets for this mission. He couldn't help but think about these desperate times while he got the Uziel ready. Sending one veteran and three greenhorns on an attack mission really did symbolize the shortage of warriors. His lancemates were all outfitted with Ravens that boasted two medium lasers and one LRM 10. Each one was painted black like his own. "Everyone ready?" he said once his Uziel was operational. "Phantom 2, ready!" "Phantom 3, let's go!" "Phantom 4, I'm good." "This is Phantom Lead. Hangar bays opening in T-minus 30 seconds. Be ready guys!" he said as his reply to all the ready-up messages. Sure enough, the huge hangar doors swung ajar and Phantom Lance walked out, headed by Phantom Lead.

"Here's a quick recap of this operation. Clanners have set up a base of operations a few clicks north of here. We are expecting medium resistance. UAV recon has confirmed that there are at least four 'Mechs guarding the base. Rumors say that some heavy 'Mechs are in the hangar bays, so be careful. Our job is to destroy the comm relay and hangar bays. Get moving." He was worried about the wellbeing of his lancemates almost as much as his own. He knew that success was vital to keeping the Clans from overrunning the planet. Of course, survival was priority number one. After a few minutes, Phantom Lance had their first contact. Uller. Clan light 'Mech. Probably a single patrol unit. It was unfortunate enough to have its back turned to Phantom Lance. He was at least 500 meters away, but his lancemates were a mere 250. "Phantom Lance, open fire!" The order was met with multiple lasers hitting the Uller hard. Clouds of blue sparks flew rapidly in each location that was hit by the lasers. Then, a volley of LRMs went straight towards the Uller. The Uller, which was still turning around and making its best attempts to avoid the incoming volley of weapons fire, had an arm fly off in a bright orange explosion when the LRMs came into contact. The Uller fired its extended range laser in hopes of hitting one of the Ravens, but it missed by about ten meters. It then was finally silenced by two PPC blasts to the center torso, which sent it off balance and toppling down a small hill. Phantom Lance started backpedaling away as an intense white explosion and resounding BOOM rattled their 'Mechs.
To be continued...
