Just thinking out loud here... haven't tried this, but for some divisions it seems like positioning and knowing where your enemy is can decide the match.

Could a NARC make a good tool for fast movers in S7 (or countering fast movers), or is that amount of tonnage too valuable to mess with, compared to a rocket launcher or SRM?

Waste of tonnage.

Command wheel. 'spot' or whatever it is. Does the same thing without using any tonnage.

I mean you can run NARC if you want as it's role would be to make your enemy laugh. Laugh so much that you might get the jump on them?

Speedy shadow cat was OK vs king crab in div3 in which it used double ppc and narc to track target on specific maps, such as jungle when the king crab moves up to the pillars and you need to make your escape from the side he doesnt walk to, but that mech is gone so it's kind of pointless.

guess that's one way to troll people @narc
;)

solaris is fun for the most part; sadly, some folks think that hiding for 10minutes makes a good game. narc might help there.
but that's about it. I wouldn't use it in S7 (or any other mode, for that matter ;D), but YMMV.

All of the spotting tools have certain advantages/disadvantages.

Narc:
  • 3t, 2slots + ammo
  • fire and forget
  • can be hard to get to stick due to low velocity
Tag:
  • 1t, 1slot (or 0.5t for light tag - enough range to cover half an arena)
  • requires LoS
Seismic Sensor:
  • 2 skilltree nodes
  • makes anything moving within 200m (100m w/one node) visible on the map while you're staying still
What is an advantage and what a disadvantage can vary from mech to mech.

E.g. a Raven RVN-3L could put on 3x ML and a NARC, but would be better off with 3x ML and SRM or MRM.

Consider this:
There is only one (or two) enemy(s) and no (or only one) teammate(s) who could benefit from the info.
