Hello all, I was wondering if any of the mechs on sale are a good deal to buy for parts, especially engines. I find that upgrading engines is the most expensive part of completeing a mech build so if there are any mechs in the sale that have great reusable engines that cost more than or as much as the whole mech it would be a great place to save some money. Strip the engine and the weapons then sell the mech.

What other mechs do you own? If you are low on c-bills, buy a mech that has an engine and/or weapons that are compatible with your current mechs. IS mechs with LFE mills are a good choice.

for IS mechs take advantage of engine swaping. It'll save you billions. Clans are stuck with their engine. Engines I use are:

xls and lfes:
190 max engine for 20 ton-3 hs/dhs external required
200 min of 2 hs/dhs external
260
245 min of 1 hs/dhs external
250
275
290
300
315

With only those 9 engines which are technically 18 as I have a mix of xls and le of those ratings I can run all 85 of my IS mechs pretty much any way I want. That saves me from buying 85 xl engines or 85 lfe engines. Keep the engine the mech comes with. you'll want it later at some point. same with weapons and gear.

I was going to advise looking at mechs with an engine rating of 250, 275 or 300 as these are very versatile mills.

Jedi Panther's summary is excellent

The only times you should sell a mech is if you are critically short of either c-bills or mech bays. Mechs get quirked up and down so what is mediocre today might be much better later on.

If your planning on assaults on the IS side, the LFE 300 and 325 are something your gonna want as well.

They will work in heavies as well for slower builds, but for the heavies your looking at the 340, 350 or even 360 on some (if looking for max speed) LFE's.

I think i've spend like 50M c-bills on engines in the past month and a half, because i was tired of seeing "Invalid" when i pulled a engine to put into another mech.

If you want to be frugal. It's a good idea to purchase mechs that can make use of your existing weapons and equipment you already have. I find the engines I use most are the the LFE 280 or 300 for heavies. The LFE 225 for mediums. Assaults I use 350 engines.

Also dunno if you wanna spend money. But the Fafnir basic pack has an LFE300 on one variant. 2xUAC20s, 2xHeavyGauss, 2xGauss Rifle. Those are some big ticket items. Plus you've got 4 LPPCs and 2 ER Mediums. It seems like a good pack to build your arsenal. And if you want ER Medium lasers, then the Osiris pack has several across the three mechs in the basic pack. Honestly next to engines, ER mediums have cost me so many c-bills. Mostly because I don't like to swap that much gear around.

You should never get an XL or LFE 275 engine. Always go with 280, unless you're specifically upengining a Hunchback or something else with a 275 cap. 280 costs just as much tonnage an gives you that little extra oopmh.

if we are talking XL's
225
235
255
265
280
295 (the only one that is really a niche engine)

How are these Not on that list? Out of your list the only engine i even use is the XL-300.. No clue what you are building and how lol

LFE's, 250, 275-285 and 300 for the most part, unless we are talking the big LFE's, aka 325, 340 and 350
