I want a crab for a medium pulse medium boat. I have narrowed it down to the 27 and 27b.

27- 10% energy range, obviously good with short range medium pulse lasers, only 5 energy hard points.

27b-5% energy heat, obviously good with a laser boat, also 6 energy hard points.

So which one do you recommend.

The one with 6 energy hardpoints and equiped with 6 medium pulse lasers.

27B is amazing. 300XL 19DHS wrecks face.

(On Edit) You should probably buy the variant that is on Coyote's priority list. I think that build is the 27.

It depends on what you want to use it for. Solaris? Probably the 27b. An extra laser and reduced heat gen is more valuable for duels than a bit of range. Quick Play? The 27 with its boosted range will help you out a little more, though even there the 27b's superior firepower will reward better use of terrain.

I would use the 27b for a MPL boat. The superior firepower will trump the range edge in the hands of even a marginally better pilot.

i don't own any crabs myself, but i would probably go with the 27B. 5 MPL is just a little light on firepower for a 50 tonner.

@Cougrt: 2.2-2.5 million is nothing. That's too cheap NOT to buy.

it's a neat looking mech and all, but it just doesn't interest me enough to occupy one of my mechbays. i've been sitting on ~300 million c-bills since the skill tree dropped anyway, so the price isn't really an issue.

The 50 ton Crabs are my favorite mech in the game. I have them all and think each is a wondrous thing. Of the two you mentioned, I would go with the 27. The dual AMS is magic and makes LRM boats cry, and helps versus streak boats as well.
If I could only own one Crab, I would choose the 20. With an XL350 the Crab is a skirmishing powerhouse. With speed tweek, you are just over 120 kph. The extra mobility lets you be where you need to be on the battlefield. It is my go to mech when I need a good game.

The 27 is the best crab, dual ams and 2 large lasers and 3 er medium lasers is the bomb.

27b.

Heat gen is far more valuable than range, considering it's A: not a range poke chassis (a poor one at most) and B: majority of fights end in a brawl/skirmish anyway, so you might as well utilize the extra heat reduction for a bit more sustainability (and when stacking with nodes, you're going to be taking a few range nodes to get to heat gen so range is somewhat made up for the lack of range quirk)

I’ve always been fond of the 27b, if only for the 4 lasers in the arms - the 27 is great if you just wanna run a STD engine to mess with people.

For a MPL boat the 27B is the best choice.

Mercstar recommends 27B. We love to give people crabs.

27 B if you want to brawl . 27 is better if you wanted to snipe .

Own 27B, boat MPL like every other Joe. While this mech is pretty tough (especially for medium) and packs serious firepower, it is quite boring to play tbh, but all in all, mech is pretty solid in performance, I don't think you'll regret the purchase.

CRB-20 has a -10% regular laser duration quirk. Thought you ought to know.

I actually don't like my other crabs as much.

27B with MPL is a great mech. I don't like to kit my crabs out for range because of the low claw mounts. The dual ams crab is good for lrm events, and situationally if you know you will face missiles, but the 27B is the best crab in my opinion.

27B, as most others have suggested.

I prefer the 27SL, because Quirks come and go, but JJs are 4lyfe Posted Image
