PGI dev 1: "Hey guys. Problem here. I don't think endless 12v12 deathmatches are sufficient to highlight the glaring flaws in our game."

PGI dev 2: "Obviously we have to do something. But what could possibly be worse than barely differentiated game modes that play out the same every time?"

PGI dev 1: "I was thinking we could implement the Solaris Arena. You know, e-sports! 1v1 and 2v2 matches that most players are never going to touch. We can even have a half baked division system to frustrate people."

PGI dev 3: "What about a free-for-all mode? That sounds like it might actually be fun and have some decent participation."

PGI dev 1: "Let's not get carried away here. Fun is not part of the design document."

PGI dev 4: "Hmm, Ship it."

I am still getting lag problem in Solaris. Getting hit even when I am viewing backside of opponent. I am also being called lagger cheater when opponent totally missed with their ac20 or ppc... Not much of fun.

I would probably play more if I didn't have to jump queues trying to find matches or if they could just lock me to NA server even though I'm in Asia :P

I don't mind it, and I play S7 in between quite a lot (losing a lot against the metacheese-crew, still having fun), but .. it's dead, jim.
a shame really, since the basic idea is sound and fun; just that it's implementation is on PGI-level (aka quite horrible).
This is all on you, not PGI. You can't go in to a 1v1 and do well with crap builds. You also can't expect any sort of way to balance "fun" builds. It's a competitive mode, and if you aren't playing to be competitive then don't blame the mode if you get wrecked. Aside from divisions, which shouldn't exist in the first place, you bring what you want and do your best, that's really the only way a 1v1 in this game could go.

Divisions are a total mess, no wonder no one plays it.
No one plays it because hardly anyone was asking for this. The competitive crowd in this game is laughably small, and the amount of those guys who 1v1 for fun is even smaller. Of course this mode would fail. And Khobai nailed it, we should never have had divisions. If PGI had any ability to judge balance, then we wouldn't have such glaring differences is chassis performance to begin with. Expecting them to accurately rank mechs is just silly. Anyone here longer than a few months should know better.

I could barely get a match during the Solaris event as solo, and almost not at all as 2vs2, so yeah.. I'd say it's about as alive as FP when no event is on..

It's hard to get a match..
