Current laservomit alpha:
2x c-ERLL + 6 c-ERML -> 2x11=22 + 6x7=42 = 64

PTS 1.1 laservomit alpha:
3x c-ERLL + 6 c-ERML -> 3x10=30 + 6x6.25=37.5 = 67.5

Isn't the point of all this balancing to try to reduce the laservomit alpha, not increase it? Or maybe I'm just missing something?

Lol. a 67 point Alpha? The IS have Alphas that go well above that as is.

'Balance"

But yes, the idea was stupid in how they did it.

Not with pure laser vomit they don't, which is what the post was about; highest you can possibly get without triggering ghost heat on any IS 'Mech is 66 using 3xLPL+6xMPL. That said, OP misses that it's considerably hotter to run what was posted, 66.6 heat in PTS 1.1 for that 67.5 damage as opposed to 59.4 heat for the 64 on live. You have to run a smaller engine, too, since it also costs 4 more tons to fit.

True it's hotter, but since clanners adopt a peek and alpha playstyle (according to the community balance guys), the current changes doesn't really solve the high alpha problem, even with the extra heat. And the extra tonnage may hurt the lighter mechs, but not so much the heavier.

Guess I just don't understand why they have to complicate the whole process so much. If they want a lower alpha, just reduce the damage of the c-ERML, and leave it at that. All the other lasers are fine IMO and don't need any change.

While I don't really see high alphas as a problem, the extra heat does reduce the rate at which you can peak and shoot. Bigger gaps in the fire allow other 'Mechs to move up; once a higher sustained DPS build gets into range, the alpha 'Mech is usually done.

Nobody does, dude.

PTS 1.1 ERLL last for 1.6 seconds. it is a pretty terrible duration and you will have trouble using that setup. Especially given the fact how you had to put into it another erll and sacrifice 4 double heat sinks.

That was a good nerf to lasers but we re stuck because they wanted to nerf lasers and they didnt.
