Don't ever think to take assault! It's true. Try meduim or fast 60t IS heavy.

This would imply mediums are the most easiest to play class. The opposite is the case. Since mediums have no light mech lag shield, don't drive 150 kph, usually have similar large hit profiles as heavies and are only minimal more mobile, mediums tend to die fast if you don't know what you are doing. Mediums are good flankers but need constantly be on guard to not end into the focus of assault mechs. Therefore you need map knowledge and a tactical awareness most beginner will lack.
While dying in a medium mech don't hurt the team too much, it is frustrating for the beginner.
I think the best starting mech as a beginner is a 65 ton heavies, because they are the most balanced mech in the game. Beginner should probably start with LRMs or Lasers because they are easy to use. 65 ton can pack a good punch.
Beginners should not take Assault mechs because Assault mechs carry most games. Inexperienced players hurt the team if they die inflicting only minor damage to the opposing team. An Assault mech going down with early or sub 300 damage done is already a sign of loosing a match.

assault mechs can live and die based on descisions you made minutes ago.
take a medium or heavy fire support mech and watch how everyone moves while you learn the maps.

I agree that new pilots shouldn't make an assault their first purchase and i even cover that in the video. However, we all know that no matter what we say, some new pilots will still choose to buy an assault as their first mech. That being the case, I go over the communities picks and my own picks for the best assault mechs for those new pilots who choose to go that route.

Here is how the Community Opinion Data played out for assaults.

... who votes King Crab as a good assault for new players? That thing sucks. And the Kodiak tied with the Annihilator? That's downright heretical.

Well I wont say wich one is good for new pilots, but saying outright that new pilots should never play assault is bad.
Now 1st mech to buy assault is no dont do it(but still not everyone are ******* that cant learn fast) but even a new pilots must learn that role and untill they do it they will remain new.So yes all roles and mech weights are for new pilots just dont mix too many weapons, keep it simple weapons wise and decent speed wise and everyone will do decent or they will learn it.
